We meet three of the vicars featured in the programme, Matthew in a small Shropshire market town, Ruth in the cathedral city of Hereford and Nicholas in the scattered hill farming community of the Black Mountains.

We meet trainee Matthew Cashmore who has given up life as an executive to be ordained into the church. In the Black Mountains Revd Nicholas Lowton comes up with a new use for a church - camping.

New curate Matthew wants to make an impression in his new parish and wants to help a homeless woman living in a tent on a roundabout. Nicholas tries to support a farming couple facing eviction.

New curate Father Matthew plans his first harvest festival, but despite the efforts of the ladies of the church it is clear newcomers are required. Ruth takes the church to the local community at the Bonfire Night celebrations.
