In the series-premiere episode, Robert receives the divorce papers from Neesee's lawyers, but has second thoughts about signing them. Robert James, a television news entertainment reporter, is trying to juggle the demands of raising his 5-year-old son with his ex-wife while building a new relationship with his girlfriend. After finalizing the paperwork for his divorce, Robert asks his son if he'd be willing to let he and his girlfriend marry.

When Neesee and Tia try to out-do each other by planning separate birthday parties for Bobby Jr., Robert insists they have one party for the boy.

Tia gets jealous of Robert's ex-wife Neesee when she takes some of his closet space and discovers their joyous wedding video. Meanwhile, the contents of the tape provide some ammunition in a cusody argument for Bobby Jr.'s baby crib. While cleaning out Robert's closet, Tia flips when she discovers a video of his wedding to Neesee. But Robert thinks the source of her ire is an erotic recording of his ex-wife.

Dirk's estranged brother reveals he has a sex-change operation. Meanwhile, Robert's mother collapses during a visit.

When Robert turns down his sister's Carmen's get-rich-quick scheme, she pleads her case to Tia, who decides to help her, but accidently gives Carmen money that was intended for Bobby Jr., so when Neesee's child support check bounces, a furious Neesee lets everyone know about it Meanwhile, Dirk and Jonelle try start a romance.

Although Tia wants to have their wedding on the beach or on a mountaintop, Robert is convinced that she really wants an expensive shindig. So, to make money extra money to pay for it, he appears in a TV commercial for a car dealership. Maybe, Bobby gives a girl he likes Neesee's old engagement ring.
