Alan is unimpressed by new neighbours Matt and Seb, who use his skip without asking but is persuaded by Joyce to join her and their friends at the couple's house-warming party. Here Maureen is in her element and Carol and Trevor re-discover the joys of sex but Alan is convinced that the lads have stolen a family heirloom from the skip and his efforts to reclaim it lead to humiliation and an accusation of trying to steal Matt and Seb's dog. For his birthday party John insists on a murder mystery theme with fancy dress, leading to Carol and Trevor turning up in ecclesiastical garb and Joyce and Alan as somewhat resentful servants. Maureen adopts an aristocratic persona but is interrupted by calls from the mysterious Diego, who turns out to be part of John's present though Trevor and Carol suspect otherwise. Maureen's mother Joan announces that she is marrying Roy, who is twenty years her junior, and invites the three couples to their wedding at n expensive hotel. Here they learn that Roy has been married four times before and they also suspect he is marrying Joan for her money and are surprised to learn that he is very wealthy.
