FOSSIL HUNTERS opens with a group meeting (either at FH Headquarters or on location). The 7 adventurers are there to plan their next fossil hunt. They always organize a group fossil hunt somewhere exotic and explain why it's an important site, and also what material they can expect to find there. Sometimes they'll invite a guest fossil hunter along with them and/or visit their private fossil collection. They also visit local fossil clubs and perform educational outreach programs for kids in schools, libraries, and museums. Other times individual FOSSIL HUNTERS take the viewer on a private hunt to their fossil honey hole. Each episode ends with the group summarizing their adventures and looking forward to the next one. Amateur paleontologist Don Brunning has had a lot of success finding fossils in the past. He decides to turn his passion into a reality TV series with the help of his wife April, (also an avid fossil hunter), and 5 of their close paleo-friends. Meet the Fossil Hunters takes us into the cast's homes and allows us a glimpse into their private fossil collections. Each cast member has a special reason for wanting to pursue these adventures. We learn what those motivations are as they prepare to embark on, and then face many different challenges, both above and below the surface of the land and sea. Written by Don Brunning

Episode 2: Agatized Coral, Whales, Creeks and Giant Ground Sloths... Oh My! takes place exactly as its name implies with the Fossil Hunters splitting up and exploring different locations in the first-half of the episode: John takes us on an agatized coral collecting trip while Don re-visits Venice, FL and SCUBA dives to find an ancient whale vertebra. Meanwhile, Zach finds echinoids with his daughter. Later, the entire group decides to fossil hunt in a creek in southern Florida with a local fossil club. April is dubbed the fossil queen for a day, Dave and Trish find dugong ribs and other fossils, and Linda shares her fear of alligators while assisting John in finding shark's teeth. The episode ends with Zach summarizing the world-famous Giant Ground Sloth skeleton at the museum he is curator for and the Fossil Hunters looking forward to their next adventure together.
