Dr. Ben Schroeder and son Charlie are surprised when a young family brings in an orphaned raccoon they found in their shed while Dr. Erin Schroeder helps a woman subdue a trapped cat with a serious dental issue. After Dr. Ben and his younger son, Chase, encounter a newborn calf with a hernia the size of a melon, the doctors also get a visit from a family of llamas, one of which is expecting.

The Schroeders know caring for animals is a tough job and you can't always do it alone, especially when a beloved pet is in desperate need of help. The docs call on their community to find a K-9 blood donor to save a pup's life, pull out all the stops to locate a lost dog's owner, and even adopt a spunky little goat in need of a home.

As fall turns to winter, the Schroeders provide care for ailing dogs, a horse who's losing weight, a stray cat in need of fostering, and check on a new baby llama. In between their usual workload, they squeeze in a two-day trip to the western edge of Nebraska, where the cattle roam free on over 10,000 acres of unspoiled land. There, they take to horseback and round up 650 cows for their annual pregnancy check.
