Neil Hackett drives his loyal wife Fiona and apathetic teen-aged sons to the Lake District, where they have bought a holiday lodge - which is, to put it mildly, somewhat ramshackle. Not only do Neil's attempts at repair end in disaster but he is annoyed that Fiona is charmed by handsome neighbour Robert, in his de luxe chalet, who, unlike his snobbish wife Penny - is keen to be friendly. After a few drinks Penny is rather more amenable - but then something awful happens, which may or may not have been a dream. Written by don @ minifie-1

Neil finds out a new wifi tower is going to be set on their front lawn. He has invited his boss Darren for a weekend dinner, then gets a text from him saying "I heard what you did last week, don't bother to come to work on Monday ". Neil thinks it is because he took an expired BLT and was caught on cctv. Having nothing to lose, he sinks into the wet cement in protest. His boss arrives for dinner. The text was a congratulatory one for his high sales. The neighbours decide to put the tower somewhere else.

Annoyed that his boss has thrown a party and not invited his family Neil decides to hold one of his own for the other lodge residents. Inevitably his attempts at sophistication fail and Robert steps in to save the day, further antagonizing him. Neil's son Garth is equally unsuccessful in his efforts to pursue the Dillons' daughter Petra.

Neil books a table at an expensive restaurant for an anniversary dinner with Fiona but they end up as guests of the Dillons. However Fiona is feeling unwell and Neil suspects that she may be pregnant, leading to a showdown in a supermarket. Back at the lodge Garth once more fails to win over Petra.

Neil decides to make a scale model of the Empire State Building out of cereal boxes for Little Neil's school project but it is a sorry affair, eclipsed by Robert's model of the Chrysler Building. However when Neil accidentally destroys Robert's offering he shows true family loyalty, for which he gets his reward. Garth finds himself in a tight spot trying to deliver Petra's exam notes but at last she starts to show her appreciation.
