As he puts the man in the back of his patrol car he is confronted with a man holding a gun to a young lady's head. The dangerous experience that follows will alter the course of his career forever. Kenda becomes suspicious when the evidence suggests Roy may have been murdered. Then, Lt. Kenda investigates the apparent suicide of Josie Hancock as a possible homicide when the evidence contradicts her husband's claims.

Two brothers at a waste disposal site collecting aluminum cans find a couple of unusual metal boxes under a 40 foot trash container. The older brother wants to open one box, but the younger boy backs away thinking it's a bad idea. The explosive in the box kills the older brother and shrapnel slightly wounds the younger boy. An accomplice with a guilty conscience comes forward to help police solve the crime in the end.
