While on a dry cleaning delivery run to prestigious Shin-Hwa High, Jan Di saves Min Ha (her client) from suicide, his act of desperation brought on by severe bullying due to targeted ostracism from F4, four bored cream-of-the-crop student boys. The act sparks a public fire storm and boycot against the company that built the school, so Jan Di - a sudden media darling - soon finds herself accepted into the restricted school to quell the public outcries. She balks against enrolling, but her thrilled family pushes her into it, unaware they're shoving their plucky daughter into the disdainfully cruel hands of Flower Four (F4), the school's four über-elite boys who rule the roost. An Internet story breaks about a Shin Hwa student, known only as 'K', getting pregnant. It's hard for the elite to believe it would be one of their own class, therefore it becomes an easy assumption that it's commoner Jan Di. The story (later naming Jan Di directly) seems to have originated wholly from Joon Pyo, who waits smugly in the senior lounge for her to come crawling in apology. Jan Di confronts him, but Joon Pyo, believing girl actions run opposite of their true inner feelings, takes Jan Di's protestations of hatred as a declaration of deep affection for him. Self-assured, he has her roughly abducted, cleaned and redressed for a private presentation to him - totally at a loss over her later vehement reaction. By contrast, her interest in Ji Hoo increases as she learns more about him through Seo Hyun, a famous model whom Ji Hoo's treats as a surrogate mother/lover. Jealous of seeing Ji Hoo with Jan Di, Joon Pyo absents himself from Seo Hyun's party to the swimming pool area where his fear of insects lands him in the drink. Jan Di, being a swimmer, rescues him, but to her further disgust Joon Pyo looks upon her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation as having taken her first kiss. Happy now, he continues to pursue her. Meanwhile, Seo Hyun's party is a set-up to announce her permanent departure from South Korea, leaving Ji Hoo depressed. With Seo Hyun leaving Korea for good, Ji Hoo decides to follow her. Joon Pye's outing with Jan Di turns more serious than expected when, after standing hours in the snow waiting for her, they get locked outside on an observation tower in winter's cold where he develops a high fever, forcing Jan Di to watch over him through the night. Word gets out of their night together, and the school student body, believing Jan Di is now Jon Pye's official girlfriend, becomes remarkably kind and attentive towards her - all but the Mean Girls Trio and, surprisingly, school chum Min Ji, who harbors a secret crush on Joon Pye and plots Jan Di's downfall. After administering to Jan Di's injuries from the student body attack, Joon Pye allows Min Ji's to explain her betrayal, after which, unable to put everything right, she leaves Shin Hwa High for good. As his staff strives to restore everything ruined in Jan Di's attack, Joon Pye visits her family, bestowing expensive gifts before taking Jan Di, her co-worker/friend Ga Eul, and the F4 gang (including Ji Hoo, back from Europe) on vacation to his private island, where his despotic manner (though meant kindly) makes Jan Di feel a little shanghaied. She recalls the words of the fortuneteller in her dream: She'll lose something as a woman, and that she is currently with both her soulmate and her future husband - but what will she lose, and who is which? Since a true friend is rare for the rich, Joon Pyo's older sister, Joon Hee - hearing of Jan Di and the rift between Joon Pyo and Ji Hoo - takes matters in hand to bring her smarting brother to his senses. She instigates a series of three contests drawn randomly for Joon Pyo and Ji Hoo to compete against each other. Hellbent on victory, Joon Pyo can't fathom how much he stands to lose by winning. With the competition at an end, and neither Ji Hoo nor Jan Di suffering any actions from Joon Pyo, Ji Hoo asks Jan Di for a date. Becasue of Seo Hyun's past influence on them, the two find they can each let go of their first loves (for Ji Hoo, Seo Hyun; for Jan Di, Ji Hoo). Noticing that Joon Pyo is stalking them presents Ji Hoo with a further task for the night - goading Joon Pyo into admitting his regard for Jan Di. That mission's success brings about two actions: Joon Pyo takes Jan Di out for dinner and a movie, then later asks Jan Di's family if he can spend the night (leaving Jan Di aghast). Kang Hee Soo is not pleased at finding son Joon Pyo away from home. Having invited himself to stay overnight with Jan Di's family, Joon Pyo experiences the commoner's lifestyle and finds he likes it. Specifically, it's the close, cluttered experiences of family, which have sorely lacked in his own upbringing. He finds the commoner practice of double dating far less enjoyable, where Ga Eul's date (Gong Soo Pyo) doesn't realize whom he's facing and treats Joon Pyo without any of the due respect to which he's accustomed. An altercation comes of it, which puts Jan Di at odds with Joon Pyo, but it also presents a situation for bonds to strengthen between Ga Eul and Yi Jung. Written by statmanjeff

It's Valentine's Day, when girls give boys chocolates, but all does not go well for Jan Di or Ga Eul. For Ga Eul, Yi Jung fortifies his position that his public declarations of love were just play acting for her to save face before the ungentlemanly Gong Soo Pyo. For Jan Di, Kang Hee Soo hauls Joon Pyo home after finding the pair together in a silly contest to win a free cell phone. She offers Jan Di's family a bribe to keep the couple permanently separated. Needing work to support her family (thanks to Hee Soo's machinations), Jan Di unwittingly falls within grasp of exploitative pornographers. Fortunately, an unnamed rescuer appears just in time. Back at school, new student Jae Ha introduces himself to Jan Di as her fan and supplies her with part-time work at a proper modeling studio. There she learns that student Jae Ha and the mysterious supermodel Haje (her earlier rescuer) are one and the same. Concealing her need for employment from Joon Pyo causes her to lie to him, frustrating Joon Pyo and leading to their breakup. While both Jae Ha and Ji Hoo stand ready to become her boyfriend, Jan Di gets an F4 red card. It's the first time a student ever got selected twice to be hazed, but the new attacks become life threatening. Per instructions, Joon Pyo appears alone for kidnapped Jan Di's sake, but the other members of F4 arrive in time to spare him being beaten to death. Loan sharks take away Jan Di's father, forcing Gong Joo to supplicate and demean herself before Hee Soo to end the attack on their family. Even so, Jan Di returns the bribe with reasons of her own. F4, Jan Di and Ga Eul visit a mountain lodge for some skiing, where Joon Pyo presents Jan Di with a personally designed pendant. The Mean Girls Trio, thinking Jan Di undeserving of such a gift, steal it away, leaving Joon Pyo to think Jan Di lost it and feeling that she regards him lightly. With the passing of Chairman Goo, Joon Pyo takes over Shin Hwa Group's latest resort project in Macau, China. Time has passed, putting the F4 boys at the college level, but still without word from Joon Pyo. In the interim, Ji Hoo becomes a secret benefactor to Jan Di's struggling family, getting them custodial jobs. Concerned over her ailing shoulder, Ji Hoo takes Jan Di to the hospital where they discover that an untreated injury sustained from protecting Joon Pyo at her kidnapping has ended her ability to swim. Still in Macau, China, Ji Hoo, Yi Jung and Woo Bin finally contrive to see Joon Pyo, who firmly makes it plain he's outgrown them and Jan Di. As a favor to a friend, Ji Hoo privately asks that he meet Jan Di one last time. He does, but their reunion is cold. It would seem their relationship has run its course, but in private Joon Pyo chafes badly. His undisclosed Devil's bargain with Hee Soo, for Jan Di's sake, leaves him deprived of love and friends, and festering. Unaware of Joon Pyo's severe personal sacrifice, Ji Hoo revitalizes Jan Di with a day-long tour of city pleasures. At its end, he encounters old childhood friend Ming, who encourages the pair to stay at his place (but who has obvious eyes for Hi Joo alone). Written by statmanjeff

With Joon Pyo apparently out of the picture, Ji Hoo continues to woo Jan Di through lots of personal time together, but what exactly is up with Joon Pyo remains a question. Jan Di herself carries mixed feelings over what to do or how to feel about him (which emotionally influences her time with Ji Hoo). Invitations to Joon Pyo's formal birthday party come suddenly from multiple directions, all aiming to get Jan Di to attend in order to force the issue and gauge Joon Pyo's reactions. Of all people, Hee Soo affords Jan Di the manner by which to release her remnant feelings for Joon Pyo at his party, but Hee Soo then stuns the entire gathering with a surprising announcement. Joon Pyo, in his isolation, turns to Ji Hoo yet can't articulate the position he's in, but the action puts the shaken F4 friendships back in place (at least for now). Jae Kyung, a new student at ShinHwa University, invites herself to overnight at Jan Di's (unknowingly copying Joon Pyo's past action). Since Jan Di is the first friend she's ever made, Jae Kyung asks little sister (Jan Di) to be her romantic advisor in strengthening ties with Joon Pyo, whom she's decided to like and marry proactively. Yi Jung and Woo Bin resolve to step in before this arranged marriage becomes permanent. They link up with Ga Eul to trick Joon Pyo and Jan Di back together by making it seem Yi Jung has targeted Ga Eul for his latest sexual conquest. Fate intervenes at the worst possible moment by bringing Hee Soo into the picture. Meanwhile, Jan Di also becomes aware of the relationship and estrangement between Ji Hoo and Dr. Yoon. With Gong Joo (mother) sick and Il Bong (father) looking after her, Jan Di takes over their cleaning duties at the art gallery. Spotting her at work, Ji Hoo lends a hand - fortunately able to aid her when she blacks out from exhaustion and malnutrition. Joon Pyo, meanwhile, finds himself at the center of a family row, where Hee Soo berates him for his foolish love affair while Joon Hee berates Hee Soo for treating her kids as commodities. Once again, Joon Pyo turns to Ji Hoo for support, just in time to catch him kissing Jan Di's hand as she sleeps. Considering all things said, Joon Pyo finally takes Jae Kyung out. Excited by this, she rushes to tell Jan Di (not realizing the pain this news brings). While Joon Pyo remains cold and members of F4 remain resentfully aloof (knowing the situation is not Jae Kyung's fault), Jae Kyung remains resolute and undaunted. Winning a contest at a serendipitous meeting, Jae Kyung forces Joon Pyo, Ji Hoo and Jan Di into taking a double-date weekend ... Written by statmanjeff

Joon Pyo admits to liking someone else; Jae Kyung refuses to hear directly who but rightly surmises it's little sister Jan Di. That doesn't stop her efforts to win Joon Pyo over with a home-cooked feast (which he grudgingly accepts) and presentation of matching engagement rings (which he does not). Under the continued glare of financial hardship, Jan Di's parents make a hard decision to leave, putting Jan Di in charge of little brother Kang San. To lighten their burden further, the siblings move into a smaller apartment where they meet a familiar new neighbor / benefactor. Meanwhile, as Sang Rok walks a fine line between serving Joon Pyo and Hee Soo, Woo Bin and Yi Jung both fall into self-pity; but, while Woo Bin privately loathes being the son of a hoodlum, Yi Jung becomes an unclassy public nuisance and sustains a possibly career-threatening injury. Jan Di and Ga Eul come to the aid of Ji Hoo and Yi Jung, respectively, as both boys suffer, one from an emotional confrontation and the other from overindulgence. Losing a bet, Joon Pyo becomes Jae Kyung's servant for a day, which entails grocery shopping for Jan Di. As Jan Di's return isn't till well past dawn, Joon Pyo berates her, which prompts her to stand up to his scolding by confronting his lame play at independence. Hee Soo, meanwhile, discovering her son's been with Jan Di again, has her goons manhandle him back home, but she's not done. As Ji Hoo, upon learning that Jan Di's taken a smaller apartment, visits along with Yi Jung, Woo Bin and Ga Eul to give her a proper housewarming, Hee Soo arrives to browbeat Jan Di with another personal downgrading, additionally telling them all to leave her son alone. Now a virtual prisoner in his own mansion, Joon Pyo finds reprieve through Jae Kyung taking him along on a visit to Jan Di's. With all friends on hand, a game of Truth of ... Written by statmanjeff

Joon Hee takes the homeless Jan Di off the streets by making her a guest of the mansion. Since Jan Di insists in earning her keep, Joon Hee (with designs on helping Joon Pyo escape the predictable fate of their mother's characteristic machinations) gets Jan Di hired on as a maid. The formidable Head Maid, in turn, makes Jan Di the personal servant of Joon Pyo. As first stunned by this development, Joon Pyo soon takes advantage of it, making Jan Di apt to react in un-maidly-like manners. Yi Jung, inadvertently through Ga Eul, reconnects with first love Eun Jae, for which Ga Eul has a few choice words for him. Noticing Dr. Yoon's health issues, Jan Di works to bring reconciliation between him and Ji Hoo by moving Dr. Yoon into Ji Hoo's house. Written by statmanjeff

It should be the last straw when Soo Hee catches Jan Di dressed as a maid in Joon Pyo's bedroom, but rescue comes from an unexpected source able to stand up to Hee Soo. Jae Kyung by now knows full well the relationship between fiancé Joon Pyo and best-friend Jan Di. She meets with Hee Soo to dissuade her from retaliating against Jan Di but, adamant about marrying Joon Pyo, conspires to step up the wedding date, leaving Joon Pyo without breathing room for figuring a way out of it. With the Joon Pyo / Jae Kyung wedding derailed, F4 and friends enjoy an unexpected day of bliss, but it isn't long before Hee Soo's retaliation is felt. Promptly exiling Jan Di from the mansion, Hee Soo threatens her anew but finds her shielded by yet another guardian - Dr. Yoon - who announces his approval of Jan Di for his grandson, Ji Hoo. The extended F4 group agrees that Jan Di living in Ji Hoo's house is currently the safest place for her. Due to the warmth of her spirit, Sang Rok approaches Jan Di for a favor: to secretly care for an unnamed comatose man (which she accepts). After spending a greatly satisfying day with Jan Di babysitting a toddler son of one of Dr. Yoon's patients, Joon Pyo makes a deal with Hee Soo to take all she has to throw at him in exchange for leaving Jan Di alone. Hee Soo easily agrees to this, not sharing that she's already redirected her vindictive energies onto Jan Di's friends and their families. With Ga Eun's tenured father suddenly dismissed from his company, and Dr. Yoon's Foundation coming under attack (the stress of which sends him to the hospital with chest pains), Jan Di meets Hee Soo to strike a deal of her own. True to her word, Jan Di abandons Joon Pyo, ShinHwa High and all - and Gong Joo (though glad to have her back) can't get her to say why. At the mansion, Joon Hee learns of, and recognizes, the comatose man and is infuriated with the scope of Soo Hee's deceit. When, by luck, Ji Hoo locates Jan Di, Joon Pyo refuses to join him in seeing her, disgusted by his genetic ties to Soo Hee (though ending up secretly tagging along in his car). A vengeance-minded homeless executive, mistaking Ji Hoo for the ShinHwa heir, intends to strike back at those who ruined his life and manages to shatter more than just the Joon Pyo/Jan Di/Ji Hoo love triangle. Recollections slowly start to return to Joon Pyo, but Yoo Mi (figuring out it's Jan Di whom Joon Pyo's trying to recall) seizes the opportunity to claim them to herself in order to hang on to him.
