When a transgender teen is taunted by high school kids, bullying escalates to tragedy. Fifteen-year-old Avery Parker (guest star Christopher Dylan White) walks home from school through Fort Tryon Park when she's surrounded by a group of rowdy boys. Taunts and jokes intensify to pushing and shoving, leaving Avery in the hospital and three assailants under arrest. When the DA's office decides to try one of the culprits, 15-year-old Darius McCrae (guest star Dante Brown), as an adult, the SVU squad agonizes over whether the punishment fits the crime, and must deal with the pain of both families involved.

A starving toddler found wandering the streets alone leads detectives to the home of Manuela Ozuna (guest star Jessica Pimental) and another child in grave condition. The police question Department of Child Services caseworker Keith Musio (guest star John Magaro), whose vague and backdated reports on the family suggest he hadn't checked on the children in months. When the overworked Keith accuses his supervisor, Janette Grayson (Goldberg), of orchestrating the false reports, Chief Dodds (guest star Peter Gallagher) promises to conduct an internal investigation. But when neglect leads to death, Barba (Raúl Esparza) takes matters into his own hands and arrests them for manslaughter. Meanwhile, Dodds indicates some changes coming to Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) squad.

In the pursuit of an SVU rape suspect, detectives from another precinct shoot and kill an unarmed black man. As racial tensions rise in the city, Barba (Raúl Esparza) is tasked to indict three officers who claim they had no choice but to follow police procedure.

Rollins' (Kelli Giddish) mother Beth (Madsen) throws her a baby shower while the SVU reports to a four-star hotel where a famous violinist was raped by her colleague, Anton Krasnikov (guest star Zach McGowan). With no memory of the crime, Anton claims a hired escort drugged and robbed him, and evidence leads to the shocking return of Rollins' fugitive sister Kim (guest star Lindsay Pulsipher). Meanwhile, Sgt. Mike Dodds (guest star Andy Karl) arrives for his first day at SVU.

A reality TV family secrets begin to spill when their young teenage daughter learns she's pregnant.

When a young girl goes missing, they try to find her. They find her dead. They try to find out who killed her. DNA on her body is matched to a man in CODIS. The man is not the killer but the killer's brother. They ask him who his brother is but he can't tell them because he doesn't know. It seems like he was adopted and he doesn't know who his biological father is. He knows who his mother is but has never met her. They go to see her and she says the father is a man she had an affair with who was married and he has two sons so they think it could be one of them. So they go check his sons but they are not a match. They learn that the father was with many women. And they eventually find a woman who has three sons and one of them could be the one. Because Hodda is claiming coercion under duress, Lt. Benson's (Mariska Hargity) interrogation methods are scrutinized and questioned. The team tries to find a 16 year old boy who went missing. They suspect that a teacher who seduces other students lured him away. So they try to find her but when they do, the boy is not with her. She claims that she didn't contact him and is not interested in him. She tells them that she thinks someone used her photos which she sent the other boys to lure the boy. So they try to find that person and when they do they find the boy in bad shape. Clearly the one who lured him is a pedophile. When a reality TV show, that brings together single men and women in hopes of finding love, has a special live show. And on the show they reveal that one of the girls hooked up with one of the guys. But when she learns of this, she claims to have no memory of it. Meaning that the guy took advantage of her when she was inebriated or he drugged her. When the team learns of it, they go to where the show houses the participants and tries to talk to the girl. But she's still in shock. They ask for the videos but the producers are not being cooperative. Eventually they learn who they guy is and try and bring him in but can't. The guy later comes in with his mother who is a lawyer and tells them her son was not the one who took advantage of the girl.
