As part of a school project, Albert becomes pen pals with a girl in Minneapolis named Leslie (Suzy Gilstrap). Both of them fabricate stories about themselves to appear more attractive to the other; Albert postures as a tall athlete, while Leslie portrays herself as a ballerina and hides her paraplegia which confines her to a wheelchair.

Almanzo tries to buy some land but the man who sales it to him cheats him by blocking off the water source that goes towards that land. Knowing his crop won't grow Almanzo will fail to pay off the land by the end of the year and will lose it back to the owner. He had planned to get married to Laura and build their first home and have their first land. Now, he wants to wait but Laura wants to take a teaching job to help raise some money but he wants to be the sole provider for their family. So, she gives him back his ring. Written by Anonymous

Eliza Jane fibs and says that she is getting married to Harve Miller who had come to help Almanzo take care of their property while Almanzo was working on the new land. She says this so that Laura will take over the Walnut Grove school and she won't have to go away to teach. Since she is leaving, that leaves the house for Almanzo and Laura. They decide to get married on Adam and Mary's anniversary so that the men can help each other remember when it is! When Charles goes to get the priest he sees Harve Miller in town and asks if he wants to surprise Eliza Jane and have a double wedding, but Harve tells him that he got married to someone last Sunday and Eliza Jane knew it. Jonathan has some break-ins at the freight office, so he becomes part time sheriff to help catch the bad guy. When they bring the boy's father in and tell them they are pretty sure he's the one who's been stealing from everyone they ask to search his room. Sure enough, he's been hiding stuff in his attic. Unfortunately, the self-proclaimed personal security guy who claims that he's helping out by taking a night watch for the business owners who pay him to, has been helping to unload and sell the stuff they sell, so they bust him too. A girl who likes Almanzo but whom Almanzo doesn't like back is back in town. She wrote a song that she got published and she told Almanzo the title My Only Love. Almanzo wrote the title down and the name of the girl. Laura saw it and thought he was cheating on her and they have many misunderstandings. Charles is trying to install a picture window. He buys three of them because Laura keeps breaking them when she slams the door at the little house when she goes home because she doesn't even want to sleep at the same house, and then the next time when she climbs on top of it in the back of the wagon, and the next time when she drives her buggy too fast and Charles drops the window in the bushes. Adam goes to pick up some braille school books at the Freight office. Someone left some highly dangerous nitroglycerin in the way and when he bumps it accidentally it explodes. Now that Adam can see, he wants to take his law exam. Unfortunately after the first day of the 3-day exam, he is waiting in the rain on the train to come to the depot and he is mugged. His friend takes care of him but he misses the end of the exam and has to take it later. He passes. Timothy is a little blind boy who thinks he is above everyone and he acts like he isn't blind which causes problems. He doesn't want to be there so he refuses to participate in choir or anything even though he can sing very well. Joe Kagan is helping out in Sleepy Eye so he stops by and helps out with the child when he can. He is also interested in Hester Sue. Hester Sue is about to marry a funeral director who Joe doesn't approve of because she is not in love with him and he is not right for her. The school superintendent told Mrs. Olesen that they would have to be teaching subjects like French and Art Appreciation to be in the category of earning more spending money for some much needed work on the school and new supplies. Albert goes along at first, but quickly becomes friends with Sylvia. However, he is unaware that she is trapped in a horrifying world: She's being stalked (and is eventually attacked by) a masked rapist; her father has a cold, uncaring attitude toward Sylvia's ordeal; and her cruel classmates continue to taunt her. Mrs. Olson spreads word that Albert had gotten Sylvia pregnant. Caroline knows this isn't true and confronts her nemesis over this misinformation. Mr. Webb decides that, because of the shame his daughter's ordeal brought him, they will move from Walnut Grove. Sylvia decides she'd be happier with Albert, and the two decide to get married. When Mr. Webb finds out Albert had visited her (despite a no-guests rule), he calls Sylvia a whore, and she runs away. Albert - who had gotten a job as at the blacksmith's shop - later helps search for Sylvia, but lets it slip as to her whereabouts to the blacksmith. It all leads to one final confrontation. Pregnancy symptoms hit both Laura and her mother Caroline. Caroline, after bearing four daughters, really wants a son. But when it turns out Caroline is not pregnant at all, but is beginning menopause, she sinks into a deep depression. Her husband and daughters desperately try to convince her that they love her for the person she is, not for the person she wanted to be. Charles and Albert are driving an extra wagon for the Cooper family and the Cooper kids are riding with them. Unfortunately, The Coopers' wagon has a terrible accident and both of their parents die. Charles takes the kids on to their uncle who they were all going to live with but he lives in a mining community and can't take care of two kids and keep earning a living. (It would've been different if their parents were still alive.) So, Charles takes the kids home with him until he can find a place for them to live. Written by Anonymous

While the Ingalls, Charles especially, have gotten attached to James and Cassandra, they are already crowded with Grace, Carrie and Albert living at home. So, Charles continues to look for a family that will take them on, with the help of Reverand Alden. They find a couple who want a boy to help on the farm, but agree to take both kids. They don't know that he is going to be abusive, so eventually James runs away. Charles ends up taking them back to his house. Written by Anonymous
