CONTROL gets information that KAOS is going to use a television special featuring band-leader Herb Talbot to send out a deadly formula. Max and 99 go undercover as performers on the special (Max as a trumpet player with a computerized trumpet, and 99 as a dancer) to find out how the formula will be smuggled out. Unfortunately, their cover is blown and after a wild chase they are trapped in the television studio's control room. Something is destroying the all the potato crops in the United States. Max and 99 are assigned to go to Idaho to find out who or what is behind it. They eventually discover that Siegfried is using a phony crop dusting business to spread a chemical that will destroy all the crops. Several couriers have disappeared including one that Max was guarding. The main connection was that they all were on the same flight and that there were three individuals that were also on each flight (a toy maker, a magician and a parachute salesman). Max is chosen to be the next courier. However, just before he is to go on the mission he and 99 finally inform the Chief of their engagement. The Chief is thrilled, but because of CONTROL policy against spies marrying he must forbid it. Will policy be changed to allow Max and 99 to marry? While shopping for an engagement ring for 99 at Spiegel's Jewelery, Max accidentally stumbles into a robbery being conducted by KAOS agents Winters and Sommers, members of KAOS's smuggling arm the League of Bald Headed Men. Spiegel, sells Max the valuable Morris Diamond to keep the Winters and Sommers from getting their hands on it. When 99 shows the ring to the Chief, he suspects that Max might be on the take. However, he is cleared and accidentally returns the ring to the two agents. Now Max and 99 must find out how the duo intend to smuggle the diamond out of the country before its too late. Several CONTROL agents meet with foul play. The connection; they are all agents Max asked to be best man at his upcoming wedding. Because of this, the Chief orders Max to ask Hymie to be his best man. However, what they don't know was that it was a plot by KAOS to plant a bomb in Hymie's robotic body in order to kill off the all the agents who would be attending Max's bachelor party. Max takes over as a substitute teacher at the CONTROL training school and is given the task of trying to help two failing recruits, Lundy and Caruso, graduate with their class. In last desperate attempt to help them graduate, he assigns them the task of tailing 99 who is on an assignment to gather various items containing an important formula while shopping for her and Max's wedding. With Hymie on assignment, the Chief tells Max that former CONTROL chief Admiral Hardgrade, who is in town for an important conference as well as an old timers softball game, will be Max's new best man. However, KAOS's master of disguise, the Chameleon, is also in town bent on kidnapping the admiral and crashing the conference. Now Max must be on the lookout for the KAOS agent who can perfectly imitate anyone. Max meets with KAOS defector Dr. Madre who has offered to give Max the map to the KAOS owned Melnick uranium mine. However, Madre informs Max that the wine he is drinking was spiked with a tonic that turned the map into a liquid and that it will cause him to break out in a rash in the form of the map. Unfortunately, it will take 48 hours for the map to fully appear and within that 48 hour window is Max and 99's wedding. Max must then try to find a way to not only postpone the wedding, but stay vertical for 48 hours in order for the map to appear. Max is sent to Hong Kong to pick up a blazer for CONTROL. However, what he doesn't know is that the blazer is CONTROL'S new secret weapon, the laser blazer. When he returns he finds out that 99 has hired a maid, who happens to be a KAOS plant intent on stealing the weapon. Unfortunately, before Max is able to deliver the blazer to CONTROL it is accidentally sent to the cleaners. Now Max and the Chief must find it before KAOS gets their hands on it. Naomi Farkas is the Smarts' overly friendly and nosy next door neighbor. However, what they don't know is that Naomi and her slob of a husband Emil are a pair of KAOS agents and that her brother, KAOS district manager Arnold Borgia, have assigned the bickering couple to spy on Max and 99, even to the point of bugging their apartment. They hear that Max has invited the Chief over for dinner and when he arrives they find out two things; after the Chief leaves the Smarts' apartment he will be heading to the Pentagon with a list of KAOS defectors and that the Smarts have no dessert, which the Chief loves. Naomi then offers 99 some chocolate mousse that has been laced with a small amount of poison to cause everyone to leave the room so that she and Emil can photograph the list and, hopefully, get a huge bonus from her brother. On their honeymoon 86 and 99 become marooned on a deserted island and find Siegfried and Starker on their synthetic island.

A scientist who shows up at Max's apartment invisible. When she finally appears she is a beautiful woman that 99 catches Max with.

86 and 99 get jobs as actors to find out how KAOS is passing information.

When budget cuts hit CONTROL, 99 is on the list of agents to be laid off. She then finds a temporary job at a trading stamp redemption center, which also happens to be a KAOS munitions drop that is about to begin distribution of their latest weapon, a stereophonic pistol. 99 finds out what is going on and informs the Chief, but is captured before she can give the location.
