Gibbs meets with Mason, Rebecca's paternal grandfather, who starts acting on his own, and who presents a curious background; Mason slips away, but the gang later find him; then Mason tells Gibbs about his true history. Abby and her intern produce. Attention turns to the teacher, who turns out to be something else. Gibbs, Tony, McGee, and Ziva meet with Mason and the teacher, and the gang find Rebecca. McGee runs into trouble with a cellphone; Fornell and another member of the FBI become involved. Ziva poses as a potential seller, and money starts moving, then a neighbor sustains an injury. The neighbor's daughter lends a hand, then the father does, then the gang collar the bad guy, find the bomb, and prevent casualties; Ziva winds up on top of Tony, who says that he had missed the old Ziva. Abby finds something in her lab, then something in a taxicab, then McGee finds something on the Internet, then they put it all together. Gibbs sends Ziva with Sr. on his chore, and another guest recognizes her and knows her background and status. Abby uses a connection to produce an answer and a kiss. While investigating both chains of events, Gibbs soon sees a connection between the two threads; Gibbs also accepts an invitation to meet with Eli David, Ziva's father and the head of the Mossad, who explains more. One night Gibbs and Eli take a walk downtown with friends and others nearby. During those events Vance has conducted a conference at a hotel; the next day Eli starts toward the meeting with a protective detail; however, a major multi-faceted confrontation takes place; Ziva sends Eli back to the safe house, then Gibbs loses radio contact with Eli's party. Ducky and Palmer find disturbing evidence; Gibbs, Tony, McGee, and Ziva find clues and deduce a regrettable history. Predictably, Abby provides much help. At the suggestion of the Duck, Gibbs arranges for Ziva to connect with the widow, but she produces nothing. Another suspect comes back under scrutiny, but that fizzles. Ziva recognizes the spent brass as Russian. Word of the murder spreads fast, for seven international journalists are aboard as guests; one reporter makes a confession and reveals a potential powder keg. The team continue, and they eventually find the solution. Meanwhile, the shrink also continues, eliciting a number of flashbacks, mostly related to Kate Todd, a former member and special agent. The NCIS receives a charge to provide protective security to the minister's daughter, who's a doctoral student in Washington; she tells McGee and Ziva to shove it; her father convinces her otherwise. However, two disguised people kidnap her; the FBI investigates; the gang hold a campfire and take action, then they learn more, then they find even more. The NCIS does not officially investigate the death of the Marine, but Ducky eventually gets the body, then he and Abby provide important clues. Everything works out in an unusual way. McGee and Ziva meet Max, who used a credit card of the dead Marine; excitement occurs while McGee interviews her; Tony and Ziva meet and interview another interesting chick; McGee pursues with Max. Gibbs asks whether the corporal died because Max, a former girlfriend, made a record score on a video game. Ziva gets a lead on a major game programmer, but he has disappeared; Gibbs meets an arms dealer. Tony and McGee find the body of the missing programmer, with mutilations identical to those on the Marine. McGee finds clues defining the size of what's in motion; Tony and Ziva help to improve security at a warehouse; Gibbs and McGee conduct a one-sided interview with a woman prisoner. Gibbs checks out the contents of the warehouse; the prisoner asks for a deal, and she gets it. The bad guy goes after the bad girl, then Ziva gets the girl, and Gibbs gets the guy. Parking Enforcement Officer Bixby sees a dead body in the living room of a private home in Washington, DC; the victim, a retired Marine colonel, received seven blows of an ax; due to atypical circumstances Gibbs and company question a prime circumstantial suspect who has not confessed; Gibbs and Tony talk with the suspect, Nick, who is the troubled and conflicted 18-year-old son of the victim; Nick adamantly denies any involvement. The mother is absent but not divorced; she dropped out of sight two years ago. The Duckman sees, recognizes, and interprets an important clue, which went unnoticed during the first autopsy (at the Metro PD). Vance loses patience with Nick and then uses an aggressive technique with him until Nick gives an ostensible confession; however, Gibbs says that there's one problem. The Metro PD finds the victim's abandoned car in Washington. Ducky finds that the shooter used ammunition of an unusual type, Gibbs and McGee talk with a specialty publisher, and Tony and Ziva find the body of an FBI agent, so Fornell enters the picture. The publisher leaves the country, then Gibbs and Fornell speak with the author of a mysterious book, who tells them about the contents. Tony, McGee, and Ziva arrive at a self-store room in time to see two stars and a couple of helpers get blown up; the admiral recovers well enough to go home, and he gives Gibbs and Fornell a lead; they pursue it, but Abby says to hold the phone, then she directs them to the real killer, and they nail him. However, Gibbs receives from a reliable source that the suspect is not the right man, so the gang reexamine the evidence; then they pursue a different suspect, who turns out to be another victim. One of EJ's guys makes a contribution, and the Gibbs team pursue it and target a new suspect; soon the killer jumps Ziva, and the gang pounce on him. Franks talks with Gibbs in his basement, then Franks steps out into a rainstorm, unexpectedly meets the prime suspect, and engages him. McGeek traces a phone number to CI-Ray (Ziva's boyfriend). Ducky, with help from Gibbs, explains the changes in the MO of the killer. From Levin's left forearm EJ secretly removes a small object. Ziva tries to intercept Ray, but Cobb, the suspect, intercepts and kidnaps her; later, while Gibbs, Tony, McGee, and EJ are present inside a hotel room, Cobb arrives, enters, and surrenders, but he refuses to tell where he put Ziva. However, Abby provides clues to a place, where the gang plus Ray find and rescue Ziva, who gives explanations. Back at the HQ, Cobb escapes with two hostages; Gibbs and others follow; a confrontation ends the career of the P2P killer.
