1924 and Tommy is marrying Grace Burgess in a lavish society wedding whose guests include red-coated army officers invited by Grace - much to the annoyance of Tommy's family. A surprise visitor is Russian princess Tatiana Petrovna, whose wedding gift is a considerable sum of money which will be paid if Tommy supplies arms to a group of exiled white Russians. Recovering from his injuries with a reliance on morphine Tommy, accompanied by Arthur and John, visits the Petrovnas at their London home, where, in their underground vault Tommy's new ally Alfie Solomon values the jewels with which they plan to pay Tommy though John learns that they have more sinister plans for the Shelbys. Returning to Birmingham Tommy recruits a team of tunnellers to help him steal the jewels and informs Polly, now having an affair with Ruben, that Michael knows Father Hughes of old and is prepared to kill him.
