Shawn is delighted to be invited to help out with a case by the English Interpol HQ, even after it turns out he's not wanted as consultant but merely on account of his physical resemblance to the arrested driver of master criminal Ronnie Ives. Gus came along to attend a Harry Potter convention and disbelieves their supervisor, master jewel thief Pierre Despereaux, claiming that's his elaborate cover but employing only rookies who knew him nor his alleged Dutch superior Wim Stuyvesant. Desperate for income while suspended by interim SBPD chief Harris Trout, as their side-business life coaching isn't taking off, Shawn and Gus are eager to wriggle into a bust gone sour where demoted Lassie saved Harris from an attempt at his life, puzzled why Carton hired them, so his shifty behavior leads to the theory he's terminal, while in fact his wife is pregnant. Clumsy attorney Adam Hornstock hires Psych as 'legal consultants' to defend the prime suspect in the TV station murder of weatherman Jackson Hale. Grumpy judge Horace Leland gives the trio surprising room to sleuth for alternative suspects, even after the first one, Hale's successor, is poisoned, requiring a whole other motive . Paroled ex-con Cyrus Polk takes coroner Woody Strode hostage, claiming he's being set up for the murder in his home on a criminal he threatened in jail despite DNA evidence. Trout sidetracks Lassiter and any attempt to curb his cocky intent to end the case by needlessly bloody SWAT intervention. Psych sets out to save Woody and find out the truth about the murder. Checking up on the halfway house where Rocoo rules the roost and parole officer Edward Tripp above him, they discover a probably related second killing, while O'Hara joins Polk pretending to be his daughter. Apparently suicidal insurance company work bee John Russell's life resembles Gus's besides Psych so scarily he desperately maintains it must be murder even before Woody rules it might be poisoning. Shawn is actually desperate for income as the SBPD still doesn't hire them, yet must accept Gus's foppish offer to take the case for free. While fishing for jobs in vain all the way, Shawn digs into Insurance fraud and deals with people already on that trail, firm nerd Quan Phung and Em, the brutish PI John hired, facing the Russian mob while firm boss Latrek refuses to work with them. Those include competitive rivalry, embarrassment to the nearby gym, various complications with the dodgy health inspector and racketeering street gang, yet they stumble upon further surprises. Suspects include his academic assistant Randall and several psychics, presumed frauds and James Earl Craig, who protested not being invited and becomes the next victim.
