When a patient with kidney problems who was hoping that a new dialysis machine will not only help her but allow her daughter the freedom to pursue her dancing. But when her kidneys get worse, her only hope is a transplant but she needs a specific type which her daughter is not. So they decide to implement a search all over the world for a donor who also has a love one who needs a transplant and they seek a donor for that person who also has a love one who is willing to donate till they find someone whom the daughter can donate to. And they all come to Bunker Hill and a doctor is assigned to a patient. And Zoe is assigned to a boy whose the one the daughter will donate to. But when one of the donors is deemed unfit to donate the whole process is in jeopardy. Zoe wants to make sure the boy gets his kidney but Wallace reminds her of certain rules they need to follow which she disregards. James comes up with an idea but it's a long shot. James and Zoe work to help a teenage girl (Jessica Garza) with a rare skin blistering disorder, employing radical treatments to heal her skin in time for her to attend her school prom. Also, as Louis Keating's GSS condition gets worse, James is tempted to use his experimental cure to save him. And Malik is jealous over the special connection between James and Zoe, while Zoe awkwardly meets James' new crush, Nina (Alexis Krause).
