Rather then trusting her witness protection program handler, FBI Agent Victor Machado, sole gangster murder trial witness Bridget Kelly make a run for it on her own, before the trial. She's welcomed in New York by her rich, identical twin sister Siobhan Martin and her dream husband Andrew. Only a suicide note on their yacht informs Bridget that spoiled-rotten Siobhan wasn't happy, but she accepts taking her place as seemingly perfect cover. Shortly after she discovers her twin wasn't faithful either, the whole family is a mess, notably drug-addicted daughter Juliet. Kelly must continue to be Siobhan's best friend Gemma's husband Hnery Butler's mistress and ignores that Siobhan only staged her death to flee inconspicuously to Paris, but may not have outsmarted her assailants, one of which attempts to kill Kelly, assuming her to be her twin. FBI Agent Machado tries tenaciously to properly question 'Siobhan', who dodges him as zealously. That game is up when she must organize in one day, with a brilliant gay event planner, a party fro Henry and his partner Olivia's investment firm, and he already decided on the loft where she left the assailant's corpse, which she's now unable to evacuate and must hide. Henry is delighted with the 'old Siobhan' who cares again for him and 'their rebellious junk daughter, not unlike young Bridget. Henry still dodges Gemma's suspicion of adultery and asks 'Siobhan' why they should break up. After Bridget cleans out Siobhan's Manhattan bank accounts, the real one decides from Paris the 'spoil sport' must be eliminated fast. She gets Henry to agree to a meeting sos he can explain her erratic behavior and the Gemma drama, but that goes south because of the real Siobhan, who returned from Paris as her lover Tyler no longer puts their affair over company loyalty to Andrew, and impersonates herself in therapy and home to sabotage Bridget, who ends up seeing her with unsuspecting Andrew. Bridget helps Andrew organize a benefit party for Juliet's school, which they end up hosting, but she claimed to schoolmate that favorite teacher Carpenter abused her, gets drunk at the party and makes a scene, after which both (step-)parents turn on him.
