Although Zobelle has fled and the League of American Nationalists been defeated, as they prepare to bury Half Sack, the Sons are reeling in the aftermath of Cameron's kidnapping of Abel. However, when she is hit with some unexpected news concerning her father, Nate Maddock, she is forced to risk her freedom. After Jax tells Tara she should get as far away from him as she can, and still suffering the effects of seeing Hack Sack's murder, she finds it difficult to return to work, despite her suspension being lifted. The Charming police department are in shock at the death of Hale, killed by a drive-by shooter at Half Sack's wake, and Unser is forced to temporarily postpone his retirement. When SAMCRO investigate the shooting, they get some unexpected news concerning the Calaveras, a small Mayan affiliated MC in Lodi led by Hector Salazar. As such, they turn to a friendly Lodi club, the Grim Bastards, led by Taddarius Orwell T.O. Cross, for help. Meanwhile, in an effort to get intel on Abel's whereabouts, they help out a bounty hunter, Sergio Colletti, who happens to be married to Bobby's volatile ex-wife, Precious Ryan. On the advice of Jimmy, the Real IRA council reject Cameron's pleas, and Kellan convinces Maureen it would be better for him if they had him killed themselves, rather than letting the IRA or the Sons get to him first, and torture him. However, rather than covering up his presence in Northern Ireland as Jimmy orders, Kellan has Cameron's body dumped in public. He then takes Abel from a reluctant Maureen, and has him illegally adopted. SAMCRO, who believe Cameron and Abel to be in Canada, learn the deal Zobelle cut with Alvarez to distribute heroin throughout California's prisons is still on the table, and the Mayans are cutting their product in Lodi and running it through Charming to Stockton. Just as SAMCRO are planning to skip on the bail Oswald put up and head to Canada, they learn Cameron's body has been found in Northern Ireland. However, when Jimmy and Liam O'Neill, SAMBEL's sergeant-at-arms, tell Jax that Abel wasn't with Cameron when he arrived in the city, Jax decides to head to Canada anyway, accompanied by the Sons and Gemma, who must finally be told about Abel's abduction. Before Clay and Jax tell her, however, she has to put Nate in a retirement home. As Clay's arthritis worsens, Tara decides she wants to join them on the trip north, but Jax refuses to allow her, putting a huge strain on their relationship. In Northern Ireland, although Jimmy doesn't want the Sons to know his involvement in the lie surrounding Abel, he argues the child should be returned to Jax, but Kellan disagrees, and is supported by the Real IRA council. In Charming, Gemma is in hospital, having suffered an arrhythmia attack after learning of Abel's abduction from Maureen, who called her with Kellan's blessings. Realising that Jimmy and O'Neill lied to Jax, Clay worries that all of SAMBEL may be compromised, whilst Gemma reminds him that if Jax goes to Belfast he will uncover truths they had wanted to remain hidden. Gemma also reveals she called Stahl prior to her collapse and agreed to verify Stahl's version of what happened with Edmond and Polly, if, in return, Stahl took death off the table and agreed to allow weekly prison visits. Gemma delivers Stahl's prepared statement to the FBI investigators, which falsely implicates Stahl's partner, and lover, Amy Tyler, in Edmond's death. Having averted a war with the Mayans by agreeing to allow them to move their heroin through Charming, as long as they pay a toll, SAMCRO secure an alliance in Lodi between the Mayans and the Grim Bastards. However, as a result, the planned patch-over of the Calaveras is no longer on the table, much to Salazar's chagrin, who reacts by causing a problem for the Bastards which could jeopardize the new-found SAMCRO/Mayan peace. With the bail hearing pushed back ten days, the Sons prepare to leave for Belfast, using one of Oswald's cargo jets as passage, but before they go, Gemma learns of a secret from John Teller's past, and makes a desperate decision. However, not wanting word to get out that the IRA have killed one of their own leaders, he wants the Sons to do it instead, and will withhold Abel until that time. As Jax turns to Stahl for help, and Tyler becomes suspicious of Stahl's actions, SAMCRO decide to find Jimmy and trade him for Abel. Believing they can locate him via his gun running operations with SAMBEL, the Sons head out on a Real IRA protection run, unaware that Jimmy and O'Neill have orchestrated a trap for them. Kellan explains to Jax the Real IRA council need proof that Jimmy ordered the bomb, and if they get it, they will sanction and fully support the Sons in killing him, and at that time, Abel will be returned. As such, SAMCRO decide to compel O'Neill to rat on Jimmy's activities. However, despite O'Neill betraying him, McGee determines to protect him from SAMCRO, and at the same time, Jimmy looks to silence him. In Charming, Salazar kidnaps Tara and Margaret, and demands a $250,000 ransom, and the death of Alvarez, or he will kill both women. Kellan reveals Abel's location to Jax, but puts the idea into his head that the life of an MC is no life for a child, and was not the life John wanted for his children. With the death of McGee at Clay's hands, SAMBEL is reorganized. After Gemma and Maureen catch Jax and Trinity about to sleep together, they are forced to reveal John's history to them both. When Jax informs Stahl of the Real IRA's decision regarding Jimmy, she urges him to make sure Jimmy is not killed, or their deal is null and void. Having killed Abel's adoptive parents, Jimmy is able to use the child as leverage to secure safe passage from Northern Ireland. At a meeting set up by the Real IRA council, Jimmy exchanges Abel for Kellan, despite Kellan knowing the exchange will almost certainly lead to his death. Unhappy that Jimmy is out of the country, Roarke, Brogan and Dooley tell the Sons that when they return to California, they want them to kill Jimmy. In return, they will increase their gun business with SAMCRO ten-fold, as well as giving the Sons access to Jimmy's contact list for the entire Western United States. In Charming, Tara has secured Margaret's release from Salazar, but she herself is still held hostage. After an aborted attempt to use ATF money to pay off the ransom, Salazar is now aware the Sons have been lying to him. Returning home, Jax is forced to choose between personal vengeance and the greater good of SAMCRO, while Jimmy's faith in his new Russian comrades is tested as he tries to secure ... In a desperate move to ensure nothing gets in the way of her deal with Jax, Stahl has murdered Tyler, and continues to push Jax to give up the Irish Kings. However, in an effort to save her son from being seen as a rat by both SAMCRO and the IRA, Gemma decides to turn herself in, threatening the deal and potentially exposing both herself and the Sons to more jail time.
