In the town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut, 7th grader Kristy Thomas starts a babysitting business with her friends, Claudia Kishi, Mary Anne Spier, and Stacey McGill.

Stacey tries to manage her diabetes and worries about what people will think when they find out she has it.

Mary Anne tries to prove to her father and friends that she can be mature and responsible.
