In 1995 five year old Jesse Wells disappeared whilst playing with friends including older brother Mark. Twenty years later one of those friends, policeman Danny is investigating a woman's murder and finds Jesse's DNA at the crime scene. He informs Mark, now a lawyer and the other two friends, doctor Pru and Slade, who runs a homeless shelter. Paedophile Jakob Marosi had admitted to killing Jesse and sticks to his story when Mark visits him in prison. Slade encounters a young girl, Gemma Morgan, who has been missing for five years and claims to have been held with other children, her presence disturbing Slade's colleague Brit. Danny arrests the mysterious youth, the suspected killer of the murdered woman, IT consultant Selina Callaway, but he is released as he only stole her phone and there is no further holding evidence. Mark and his father Alan dismiss him as being Jesse. As Gemma is reunited with her parents Brit makes a confession to Slade which, coupled with evidence from Gemma herself, leads to Danny paying a all on reclusive music producer Jay Newman. Mark is called upon by Simon Marshall, schoolboy son of his ex-lover Laura, to locate his missing father but Laura denies any mystery, claiming he is on a business trip. Whilst at Selina's flat Danny disturbs the young suspect from the murder and pursues him, with the youth ending in a coma in hospital. Julie is adamant that he is not Jesse but then he disappears. Danny returns to Newman's house to find he has been murdered and, after freeing Newman's captives, finds Jesse's DNA at the scene. Mark confronts Slade with Pru's admission but gets no nearer to discovering where Jesse went whilst Danny unearths a skeleton in Newman's garden and learns from his prisoners of a male visitor to the house and another girl, Rachel, who mysteriously disappeared. Mark sets out to locate Kenton Marshall, leading him to the name of a girl called Alexa and details of an elaborate blackmail ring but he is attacked and saved by a rescuer who runs off. He and Slade trail the assailant to Selina's place of work and Slade gets inside but lies to Mark about his findings. Meanwhile there is another murder. Written by don @ minifie-1

Danny insists that Mark leave the investigation to the police, but his dogged persistence leads him to unearth another murder scene. At the shelter, Slade's life is turned upside down when he receives devastating news, while Pru starts to question the woman that she has become.

Mark is left stunned when he realises what Laura's husband has been up to and Slade later reveals a dark and disturbing secret. Elsewhere, Danny makes a breakthrough in the case but he is forced to question his own part in Jesse's disappearance when his dad Ray gives him a few home truths.

Mark's parents are burgled and family photos stolen, leading them to believe Jesse was the culprit whilst Slade has a confession which disappoints Mark. Danny has a heart to heart with his senile father Ray, whom his wife wants out of the house, before he is given a name by Porter's associate Payne for Selina's killer and then finds another body outside the hotel and a further link between Jesse and Newman. Pru puts herself in danger when she hits rock bottom and finally realises it's time to sort out her life before it's too late. Elsewhere, Mark is unnerved when he comes face to face with the evidence that will finally reveal the truth about Jesse's disappearance.

Just as Mark think he's getting close to the truth, he discovers devastating information that makes him question everything about his family. Meanwhile, Danny reaches rock bottom when Ray's return almost ends in tragedy and Ally enlists the help of Pru on a seemingly fruitless mission to finally crack the case.

As the investigation into Jesse's disappearance takes an unexpected turn, it is time for Mark and his family to finally face up to the truth, but will they ever be the same again? Pru enlists Slade's help as she worries how Mark will take the news of her shocking discovery, and they face a race against time as they do everything that they can to help him rescue his family before it is too late.
