Once a stoner, now a respectable insurance salesman, Danny Gates decides against asking his irresponsible drug-taking long-time friend Milo Edwards to be his best man at his wedding to Kate, which so upsets Milo that he overdoses on magic mushrooms and starts to hallucinate. He sees Danny as a bearded, armour-clad knight killing Callum, an assassin sent to murder Milo, before Danny disappears. Milo rings the real Danny to dispose of Callum's body but, after fiddling with a wrist band on Callum's arm - which subsequently disappears - they find themselves in a parallel universe where Milo's late grandma Jenny is still alive, Kate is unfaithful with colleague Pete and the pair discover a dead version of Danny. Leaving the house Milo and Danny see a plaque on the wall to commemorate Milo as a dead rock star and they are chased by screaming fans, including Kate, who does not know who Danny is and has sex with Milo. Danny meets a polite, suited version of Callum, who tells him he is exploring parallel universes but then his murderous counter-part appears and Danny kills him, taking the armband though it is broken. Another version of Danny, jealous of Milo, tries to kill him but is shot dead by Milo before the pair, taking a clue from rock star Milo's suicide note, find the portal to escape - into a cold underground cavern. Milo and Danny return to Danny's house where 'they' have been previously killed by Callum and have to stop Kate from finding the corpses. However World War Three has broken out and, after Kate and Danny have got married, they must locate the secret bunker manufactured by Goldenmire, the 'respectable' Callum's company. in the basement of their old school. Rescued by the heroic equivalents of themselves the boys make it to the bunker but get separated when a mob breaks in with Milo being urged to go through the next portal on his own. Milo is soon joined by Danny in a post-apocalyptic future, where they are accused of quantum genocide, travelling through different realities with the stolen armband and killing people. They are put on trial and sentenced to death for the crimes perpetrated by their doubles, but they are rescued by Kate and Paul, locating another gateway where they confront the true killers before returning home for a final showdown with Callum.
