Buck, Blue and Manolito rescue Creed Hallock and his wife Megan who are attacked by Apaches. The young man is a bank clerk from St. Joseph, Missouri with dreams of going west to start a new life. The couple has bought a broken down ranch next to the High Chaparral. After spending their first night at the High Chaparral, the three men take them back to their ranch to help them get started. Creed has bought stock from the Gore brothers who are known swindlers. Buck goes along with Creed to confront them but Frank denies selling any cattle and Buck is forced to kill him to save Creed. With no cattle, Creed uses his wife's jewelry to buy 25 head of Mexican cattle. During their time together it becomes apparent to all that Buck is in love with the golden haired Megan so she asks him to stay away. After returning with the Mexican cattle, the Cannons find one dead from anthrax. The Cannons are forced to confront Creed with the news that his herd must be destroyed. Meanwhile, Dave Gore wants ...
