Ex-wife Susan contacts Lovejoy after their daughter disappears and resurfaces living with a much older man,successful businessman David Herbert, a widower. When Bonnie,a friend of Lovejoy, appears to have been duped by art forgers operating from a shop run by junior minister Michael Brightman's son Jez,Lovejoy does some research into the newspaper archives and discovers that David's wife is alive and living in France.
