Corey Boone, a private detective and a mentor to Joe Mannix, dies after being thrown from the window of a penthouse. Suspicion falls on the owner of the penthouse, a shady attorney named Charles Egan, who claims he was out driving around when Boone was killed. His one possible alibi is a young woman with whom he claims to have had a brief encounter in a remote area at the time of Boone's death.
