The wedding day dawns. Bryn and Jason put their secret to bed whilst Stacey has wonderful news. All thirty-four of her pregnancy testing kits have turned out positive. Nessa's ex-lover John Prescott is invited to the wedding but, after watching her mother get married nine times, she does not wish baby Neil to attend and gives him to Smithy to look after whilst she and Dave Coaches go on honeymoon. To the strains of 'Suddenly' (as featured in the soap 'Neighbours at another marriage) the bride and groom stand at the altar but Smithy bursts in with Neil, advising Nessa against marrying Dave Coaches as she does not love him and is only looking for a father figure for Neil, something he himself can provide. Dave Coaches agrees with him and the wedding is off. Six months later a pregnant Stacey, Gavin, Nessa and Smithy sit on the sea-front, Smithy asking Nessa, What's occurrin'? All doubts aside, Stacey arrives at the church - in the white Bentley - with Bryn who gives her away, after reading a letter of anticipated congratulation from her late father. The ceremony passes off all right, though Bryn is still wary of Jason, Pete and Dawn argue at the reception and Doris from next door comments on the bride's swapping one unenviable surname for another. Gavin gives a heart-felt speech in praise of his new wife whereas Smithy's best man speech is literally speechless as he is overcome by emotion, rather like Pam and Mick as they perform 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' at the karaoke. There is no emotion, however, between Nessa and Smithy as they reluctantly pose side by side for the wedding album. He tells her he has a new girlfriend, she tells him nothing about her pregnancy. After promising Charlie Gimbert that he will refinish a sideboard for a lady friend by the weekend, Lovejoy allows the appropriately named Bible Joe, an eccentric Welsh antiques dealer, to browse Charlotte's antique shop. Although the Scripture-quoting Joe has an impeccable reputation for honesty, he inexplicitly steals a priceless ancient Celtic cross that she found hidden inside a cupboard she bought from a sale in Wales, a cross that may be part of a famous set of twelve.
