Sam leaps into the body of Tommy York, a cadet at Prescott Naval College in 1964. Tommy is a superb athlete and will be the valedictorian at the upcoming graduation. Al tells Sam that Tommy's former roommate, ex-cadet Philip Ashcroft, will be found dead in two days time. Ashcroft was expelled from Prescott because he was a homosexual but Sam learns there is a small group of cadets, known as the Chain gang, who are praying on gay men in the community.
