Lady Mae impresses with her plans for a new fashion line and unwittingly courts bigotry by employing talented black seamstress Tilly Brockless, incurring the prejudice of her less accomplished white colleagues, though she finds a friend in Grove's eldest daughter Meryl who feels out of her depth working at the store. Harry opens a new, technology department to sell electrical home appliances whilst Mae's first fashion show is a success. though she is annoyed by the drunken antics of guest models, Harry's friends the singing Dolly Sisters and she is happy to respond to Jimmy Dillon's attentions. Harry responds by unveiling the plans for his project with Nancy Webb - though she may be keeping something back from him. Lois persuades Marie to move into the Selfridge house whilst Miss Mardle agrees to keep a secret for Doris Grove and Purkiss gets revenge on Victor by raiding his club, arresting both him and Violete.
