After waking up in Bella's room Robert calls on Lily, a young woman he met on first arriving in England, and together they visit Max Utterson. Learning from Max that Garson was once the assistant to his grandfather Dr Jekyll Robert seeks him out, saving him from being killed by Tenebrae thugs. They go to Dr Jekyll's house where Robert is shown the laboratory where his grandfather transformed himself into Hyde. In Ceylon Ravi manages to escape from Dance, who, with his lover Fedora, sets sail for England , a fact known to Bulstrode, who is still anxious to locate Robert and use him as the bait to catch them.
