Finding that a saboteur has cut the aviary nets and Muriel is reluctant to spy for him at the council George is not in the best of moods when he and Lizzie approach lawyer Neville Kelly to represent them at the appeal, finding him mercenary and dispassionate. He plans to represent himself but is dissuaded by Lizzie and certainly Kelly serves them well, proving Mrs Radler to be a liar and Webb to be motivated by his desires for Lizzie. Lady Katherine gives an excellent character witness and the case goes against the obnoxious councillor Tipping with information Frankie gives Billy. As a result there is an inspection of the zoo, resulting in the approval of its opening. Eighty years later it is still one of the most visited wildlife attractions in Britain.
