In the early 20th century, the Stanleys, widower Blair and his adolescent daughter Sara, live a life of privilege in Montréal. Things change when Blair is accused of embezzling money from his own company, the money having actually been taken by his long time accountant who has disappeared. Sara is accompanied to Avonlea with her long time nanny, Louisa J. Banks. Upon Sara and Nanny Louisa's arrival in Avonlea, things end up not being quite as Blair had wanted.
