An unidentified man is found badly injured by the roadside near Aidensfield and PC Mason thinks he was assaulted. A complaint about a van blocking the way in Back Lane leads not only to the identity of the unknown man, but also to a load of condemned meat which has now disappeared. And soon they have the first case of salmonella poisoning. Aunt Peggy is asked to keep an eye on a mansion for three weeks. And being Aunt Peggy she cannot see why she should not make a little extra money on it herself and do some bed and breakfast in posh surroundings. Her first customer is a very surprised Alf Ventress. He had outstayed his welcome at the Aidensfield Arms - and one of the cells at the police station - and was asked to move out by Sergeant Nokes, who is filling in for Sergeant Miller. Alice Howarth asks Nurse Cassidy to look after her mother Edna who is so old it is not safe for her to be living alone anymore. Following a tip-off Gently and Bacchus acquire a suitcase full of stolen passports dropped by petty crook Jimmy Cochran. Cochran's old flame Maggie Alderton worked in the office where they were issued and is found raped and strangled next day, the father of her child being identified as one Thomas Ali, for whom she was apparently trying to secure a passport. Cochran is in a turf war with some Arab boys, also involved in dodgy passports and Maggie's transvestite boss is also less innocent than he first appears. However, facts prove Ali and Cochran to be father and son and neither has killed Maggie, a pawn in the whole scam. Vlad and his dad have escaped from Stokely after Ingrid goes bad. Vlad has got most of his powers because he is the chosen one and he and his dad are hiding out from slayers in a school they have bought. Vlad has visions of Ingrid being chased by slayers and she seems to be ill. Meanwhile Ingrid meets up with Erin, a half-fang who rescues her from the slayers and they run away together. Against his dad's wishes, Vlad manages to turn into a bat and goes after her. She threatens him and he shows how powerful he is now. He leads the slayers away and Erin and Ingrid drive to the school. The Count is not happy with this because he hasn't forgiven Ingrid for what she did in Stokely. Vlad says the sick Ingrid can stay along with Erin. He offers Erin a coffin and she accepts but we see her reflection in a jug showing she is a breather and not a half-fang like she said she was. Written by aivilo6
