The Bellamys are in a panic over Elizabeth's disappearance. She hasn't been in touch since she's left but Hudson manages to track her down, courtesy of Rose who has known all along where she's been. Richard tries to convince her to return but without much success. He also checks into Lawrence Kirbridge and learns that he is from a good family and is a writer of some promise. They invite him for tea and decide they approve. To Elizabeth's shock and dismay, Lawrence proposes that they should marry, despite their supposed radical views against societal norms and conventions. James meanwhile also has a new friend, a chanteuse who has made quite a name for herself in the music halls of London. She turns out to be none other than Sarah, the Bellamys former maid.
