During a hunting trip near Washington a three-star admiral, a deputy CNO, dies from a shotgun wound, apparently self-inflicted. A.J., a long-time personal friend of the victim, refuses to accept that it was suicide; he orders Harm, Mac, Bud, and Harriet to investigate. Harm and Mac turn in a report calling it suicide; A.J., still disbelieving, starts his own inquiry. Then someone stabs a two-star admiral to death. More evidence arrives, and the JAG gang all continue asking questions. Eventually A.J. connects the dots, and it begins to appear that he's next in line.
