A group of broken souls attend a self-help seminar at a remote wooded retreat with a famous guru. In search of better lives, they must confront their deepest demons in the midst of their fellow wayward strangers. As they get pushed further and further by the program, they begin to confront their personal problems. But as their group therapy sessions become increasingly volatile - including lie detectors, fire arms, and experimental drugs - they begin to question the methods in spite of the results. Luke Palmer, a Los Angeles widower, has been in therapy for a year since his wife’s accused killer was found Not Guilty at trial. In an attempt to get away from his anguish, Luke takes a trip to Scottsdale for a three-day vacation, but is kidnapped and awakens to find himself in a room with a recording device…and an electrified restraining chair. The next thing Luke knows, a hooded man is dragged into the room and secured in the chair. The hood is removed to reveal Galen Terry, the man acquitted for Luke’s wife’s murder. The teenager Hawk Kodiak has just left a juvenile facility to live with the Eddie Palmer, who owns a dinner in Rockwell. Hawk arrives in the small town by bus bringing a basketball, and befriends the local Joey Larch. Then he goes to the high school, where he meets Eddie's niece Colbie Palmer, who drives him home. He meets the outcast Johnny Stumbles, who is the only survivor of a bus accident with the local volleyball team that happened seventeen years ago. Soon Hawk discovers that time has stopped in Rockwell since the accident and people have not aged. However he decides to play basketball with Joey and Johnny and soon there are changes in town.
