Fresh out of college, a 23-year-old Black woman finds the world of rent, racism, and relationships even more complicated when she opts to be her White coworker's side-chick.
Araceli, a young Latina fashion model, is offered a coveted runway gig and has to decide what to do with her unplanned pregnancy while mourning the recent death of her mother, a Mexican immigrant who sacrificed all for her family. Araceli is consumed by the dilemma and remembers many childhood memories, among them her desire to become a doctor. The surprise ending reveals her decision to use her brains, instead of her beauty, to realize her dreams -- and offers her an unexpected chance to pay gratitude to her late mother.
