Team Austin tries to hire a backup dancer when one is injured during a publicity stunt. At the same time Ally begins to suspect that Trish and Dez have romantic secrets with each other, which turn out only to be partially true; Trish is found to be dating one of the dancers, and Dez secretly watches romantic movies. Trish books Austin for the cover of a teeny-bopper magazine and makes up wild stories about his life outside of his music in order to impress them, forcing Austin to actually live up to the hype. When Austin's musical ambitions take precedent over his school work, his parents decide to ground him. Meanwhile Ally tries to help a down on their luck music club which incorrectly assumes they can borrow the instruments at Sonic Boom indefinitely, while Cheetah Beat kid-reporter Megan Simms publicizes the incident as a noble gesture. Now Ally tries to organize a fund-raiser to help the kids buy the instruments they borrowed with the promise of a performance by Austin, which is a promise that may be difficult to deliver. Trish's ex-boyfriend Trent tries to get back together with her. When this fails, he decides to steal the music and overall career of Team Austin.

Austin's dream of performing in Times Square on New Years Eve seems to be on the verge of coming true, but it has hit a few snags along the way, like Trish's bad cell phone app, and the general difficulty of getting around in New York City. While Ally tries to help him arrange the perfect date and convince Kira that they're not a couple, the effort to do so begins to kindle feelings about Austin she never thought she'd have. A boy from Ally's summer camp days who she had a crush on at the time comes to visit her and spends time reminiscing with her about their camp days... and doing nothing else. The time they spend with each other begins to cut into their songwriting, and suddenly give him feelings of jealousy despite the fact that he's dating Kira, leaving him torn between both girls. Ally's mother returns from the jungles of Africa to plug a book on her animal research, while she and Austin are continuing to consider their relationship beyond songwriting, and attempts to overcome her stage fright even as Kira pressures Austin on the status of their relationship. Still torn between his songwriter and his boss' daughter, Austin tries to convince Ally that she's the girl he wants, while simultaneously struggling to end his relationship with Kira without hurting her or his contract with Starr Records. Trish talks to her mother and complains about her current job at the old antique shop. After she unintentionally sends a customer off, her current boss, Mr. Gower, tells her to try to sell something- it's either that or get fired. Dez, Austin, and Ally then come into the shop, and Dez asks Trish if she has any typewriters like the one that Ernest Hemmingway wrote on. She shows him the perfect one, and after he exclaims that he'll win the short story contest with it, his rival, Chuck, enters and says that he'll win. The two have a word war, and Chuck wins. He then flirts with Trish before leaving. Dez then tries out the typewriter., and after using it three times, he is convinced that the typewriter is magical. Trish and Ally, on the other hand, are unconvinced. Even after Ally becomes somewhat convinced, Trish is the last to be convinced- she is only convinced after Dez ends up getting a giant Meatlover's Sub. Dez then does the rest of the gang a few favors- Ally gets a wagon full ... Written by anonymous

The pop-star and the songwriter are hired to write a song for an upcoming animated movie, and find that their newfound love life isn't having the best impact on their shared artistic ambitions. Meanwhile Dez and Trish have their own shared artistic ambitions to attend to when they make a homemade video for a contest related to their favorite horror/science fiction movie series. Trish gets a job at a spa and invites Ally to get some treatments.

Unable to talk Austin's boss into signing Ally up as a performer, Trish gets her an alternate deal with a woman named Val which proves to be less than desirable when she and the team find out she's being forced into playing the goth member of a shallow all-girl group called The Stray Kitties, and can't get out of the contract.
