Jonathan and his partner Claire are splitting up, but he's desperate not to tell their son Spencer, so runs away with him to stay with his sister Danielle and her wife Courtney.

When Spencer gets invited to a laser quest party by Jed, a cool kid he is keen to befriend, Jonathan is so distracted by overparenting the situation that he risks both embarrassing Spencer and losing his job.

Jonathan and Spencer are still living at Danielle's, and tensions are rising. When Claire questions if it is appropriate for their son to be sleeping in an office room Jonathan panics and lies to her about finding a new place to live.

When Claire invites a mysterious work colleague into her home, Jonathan worries that Spencer will end up with a new Dad. Meanwhile, Danielle and Courtney try to have a romantic night in.

Jonathan worries he has no friends, so makes the terrible decision to go for a night out with his boss Keith. Meanwhile, Danielle starts to reconsider having children.

It is Spencer's birthday and he wants the whole family to go to a zombie-themed hotel. But Danielle and Courtney are not speaking and Jonathan and Claire are still awkward since the kiss.
