John Larroquette is among the new cast members as new partner Carl Stack, who seems to go out of his way to throw his weight around, including threatening Clarence's job and assigning a new attorney a first degree murder trial...an attorney so new that she's never even been to trial, where she meets former partner Brad Chase. Against all odds, new lawyer Katie Loyd and Jerry win their unwinnable murder trial. Alan is impressed by their victory. Shirley invites Lorraine to join the firm as a new associate. Denny lusts after the new associate and immediately invites her to sleep with him! Alan warns Denny to stay away from Lorraine and then has sex with her in the office!! Alan declines Judge Gloria Weldon's offer to have a child with her and they break up. Denny speculates with Alan about the nature of the relationship between Shirley and new boss Carl Sack. Denny walks out on a friend after finding out that the friend is a homosexual, then tries to run out on the office when he catches Shirley kissing Carl. Alan finds speech impossible to maintain around Lorraine. Katie attempts to let Jerry down as gently as possible. In the courtroom, Shirley tries to assist Denny's friend in a lawsuit because the homosexual is a general in the Army and Katie defends a Latin father who allows his son to compete in the bull ring. Shirley pursues a court order to euthanize her father, who is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease. The residents of Nantucket petition for the right to have a nuclear weapon, and Jerry is sued by a sexy female companion.

Alan leaps at the opportunity to present an appeal to the Supreme Court in the case of a mentally challenged man sentenced to death for the sexual assault of a young girl.

Denny Crane falls for a rancher client who hires him to sue the FDA over cloned meat. Shirley and Alan sue the Democratic Party over pledged convention delegates switching their votes to the other candidate.

While the firm takes on legalization of prostitution and accepting female priests into the Catholic church, Denny Crane contemplates an offer to seek the Republican nomination for president.
