Castle and Beckett plan a romantic weekend away in the Hamptons, but their trip turns sour when a dying man stumbles into their swimming pool. Castle is intrigued by the case and Beckett follows his lead, knowing that they will not be able to enjoy their weekend until the crime is solved. The trail leads to a retired mobster, Vincent Cardono, a drug syndicate smuggling methamphetamine out of the Hamptons and a corrupt police deputy. Meanwhile, Ryan and Esposito try to find out who Beckett's boyfriend is. Ryan discovers Castle and Beckett's secret relationship while questioning a suspect, who lets slip that he was questioned by the writer and his girlfriend. During the annual major SciFfi convention, Nebula 9 - super-fan Audrey O'Neill, who finally organized with a nerd couple a life performance there starring the short-lived series' original cast as well after decade of 'webipsodes', is found dead on set, killed with a real 'space laser', of which only two working ones were custom-made. Castle, who has better taste, is amused to find Becket was part of a college fan gang. The team works out various personal, career and business motives as well as opportunities for cast and crew. A rock band finally reaches fame, but one of its members, James Swan is found murdered in his trailer. Due to the inevitably high media profile, the city orders full cooperation with a TV crew which was already filming the band in reality-style. That makes Javier show off, Kate camera shy, while Castle pulls the strings, almost like a director. The team finds conflicts within the band. Father Joe McMurtry was fatally shot after meeting his youth buddy, now big Irish mobster, Mickey Dolan. Taking the case allows Castle and Becket to escape from a disastrous dinner where his mother, as host, and her father Jim met seemingly at war footing, which spills into grim tensions between the sleuth couple. Calling at the only witness who may talk, Leo, they loose all means of communication while gangsters set chase to them, and Leo keeps slowing them down while probing them. Ryan and Esposito realize they must be in big trouble, do some slothing of their own and come up with an FBI link which proves the basic assumptions wrong. Meanwhile Dolan catches up with Castle. A suited Santa apparently fell to his death from the sky, but actually was shot first. He's ultimately identified as former business shark Edmund, who chose 6 years ago to become one of Dave Dunne's professionally trained Santas and ended his marriage. He also helped poor residents fight their eviction by a big company. It turns out he used illegal means, but was far from the only crook in the story, not even counting his murderer. Feared society divorcées lawyer Michelle Twohey is murdered with an icepick. The plundered husbands of her clients all check out. A photographer first seen with the body was hired by her, against his will, for a 'life or death matter'. Her own handsome, elusive boyfriend Corey Francis turns out to be a fake identity of intelligence veteran Noah Kesswood. She lost her last case, being absorbed by a private investigation for golf pro Billy Piper, widely suspected having arranged his wife's yacht drowning, but that case lead to a drug connection. Meanwhile Alexis's mother suddenly moves in to nurse her kissing disease, generally believed to be dynamite for Castle's relationship with Kate, who also stays at his place and won't budge. The body of young, female DJ Holly Rhodes is found unceremoniously dumped at a construction site. The investigation indicates that she was killed elsewhere and then transported by car. The night of her death, Holly was the DJ for the album release party of aging pop star, Regina Cane, where, it's discovered Regina's party was crashed and she was upstaged by rising pop star, Josie Lang. Castle and Beckett also find Joey, a troubled teen, who was hired by Holly to assist her at DJ parties. They suspect Joey is responsible for thefts that have been occurring at the parties where Holly is the DJ. Castle and Beckett must answer the question of whether Holly was killed by troubled teen Joey or if she became caught up in the competitive drama of aging versus rising pop stars, while Detective Esposito takes Joey under his wing to steer him on the right path before it's too late. He received many death treats, such as from arch-conservative Ronald Armstrong's grim prudish movement. A professional hit victim's corpse is found in a parking facility. The team works out she worked for US senator William H. Bracken, whom Becket holds responsible for her mother's murder, but seems to be the actual target. Only Castle learns that Becket hesitated whether to hold back evidence before another clue lead the team to prime suspect Robert McManus, a fired mechanic who blames the senator for his son's suicide. Saudi student Hasim Farouk, at Columbia like Alexis, is killed by a van crashing into him while he fired at it. The team soon works out the van was used to kidnap not only Egyptian tycoon Anwar El-Masri's daughter Sara, but also Alexis, whom she met at a lecture. FBI agent Harris's sole trace, obtained only because Becket 'turned away' from Castle slightly torturing the wounded van driver, runs dead. Anwar El-Masri pays $3,000,000 ransom for the kidnapped girls, but only his daughter Sara is released. FBI Agent Harris must wait days for red tape before the FBI and NYPD can actively search for Alexis in Paris, being out of jurisdiction. So Castle goes alone and hires through a friend shady problem solver Jacque Henri and his tech sidekick 'la taupe'. They find where the girls were held and arrange anther exchange. Castle is shaky after watching a DVD which predicts, in flashy amateur horror style, the exact time of death, for no apparent reason and probably by panic-caused cardiac arrest, of the murder victim, screaming in the phone, who received it. Her ex has a solid alibi and couldn't make sense of her panic about 'it'. Tracing the DVD's shipping leads to another copy recipient, killed at home similarly. The corpse of Jimmy, a baker popular for cup cakes, is found in his industrial dough mixer. His apprentice Todd noticed, before being sent away, someone arrived in a rare collectors car, probably belonging to Irish mob lord Robert 'Bobby S.' Shannon's right hand, Liam Finch. After FBI agent Sam Walker tells Jimmy was his informant, Ryan astounds his team by revealing he has been undercover in that gang years ago and chooses to revive his alias Kevin. Castle is home, mostly alone, in a wheelchair after a skiing accident, bored out of his wits just before his birthday. After a while, he actually picks up a pair of binoculars Alexis gave him to play Rear Window. Indeed, right across the street a foxy resident betrays her studly husband with a younger hottie. Shortly after, the cheated husband finds his rival's hat, wields a knife and seems to dispose of the corpse while she isn't seen again. Yet his NYPD team mates only reluctantly investigate and can't find any proof. Castle becomes obsessed with the possibility that he witnessed a murder, while Beckett grows increasingly upset with his mania and sets out to find out the truth one way or the other. The body was moved posthumously, in act form a New York forest. Besides frictions in the Bigfoot believers community, a motive may stem from the murder of Tory's college roommate Justine Bolton, assumed to be committed by her since missing boyfriend Kurt Wilson, who turns up now.
