Captain William Boone has joined Da'an's security team and is already noticing the positive effects of the implanted CVI. He can remember everything in every detail from his entire life. Boone starts searching for the one responsible for his wife's murder. He examines the wreckage of the car and finds a device that doesn't belong there. The car was blown up from a distance. Boone hears from the police a guy was overlooking the accident and then fled. Boone remembers a guy riding away at the time his wife left. He asks his friend Augur, a computer expert, for help. William Boone sees a girl that's ready to fly off a skyscraper. He rushes to the roof and tries to convince the girl not to jump. Suddenly he recognizes her. It's Julie Payton who made the news big time years ago. She had an accident in which she lost her parents and both of her hands. She received two artificial hands, but clearly she isn't too happy with them. Boone succeeds in his mission and Da'an is intrigued by the events. He tells Taelon technology is almost at the point that regeneration of human body parts is possible. In fact it's already there, but still in an experimental stage. To their astonishment Boone and Marquette are asked to find James Pike, an escaped serial killer. Normally this is ordinary police business and Lili wonders why it has something to do with Companion security. Pike is no ordinary human being. He drew a mysterious painting with markings that look like the Taelon language with his own blood on the wall of his cell and then died. His physician, Dr. Kaplan, confirmed his death and started an autopsy during his state of rigor mortis. Suddenly Pyke awoke and escaped. Da'an opens a new music conservatory as a gift from the Taelon synod. It is meant as a place where both Taelons and Humans can communicate as one. For the occasion, Elyse Chapel, a famous musician, performs on the Taelon 'tubes', a musical instrument that even few Taelons are able to master. She and Boone had a relationship in the past and Elyse seems interested in renewing it. She also wants his opinion on the request of the Companions to run the conservatory. Meanwhile three pounds of fissionable plutonium are stolen from a truck transport coming from the Granite Canyon Nuclear plant. Sandoval sees it as a threat to Da'an and Boone tries to do his best to concentrate on the matter. All he can think about however is Elyse. Lili gets suspicious and asks Augur for help. Three Amish children in Paradise, Pennsylvania, have a secret. In a barn they found a strange metal object and call it a scarecrow. Meanwhile Dr. Elijah Good, from the same village visits Boone. For the last 200 years no Amish in the village committed suicide, but recently there have been several cases of unexpected deaths. Good suspects it might have something to do with the disease CRS, Companion Reaction Syndrome. Boone gets permission from Da'an to investigate it. Good has plans to perform autopsies on the body to find out what is wrong before more people die, but fears the reactions of the elders. Jonathan Doors decides it's time to act. He hijacks the television signal just when the hugely popular World Bowl is about to begin and tells the whole word there is a resistance movement fighting the Companions. Boone and Marquette are not too happy about his stunt because he didn't tell them about it. They suspect Lili and Dr. Belman will be questioned soon. Doors sudden appearance also upsets the Taelon Synod and Da'an is barely able to convince them to let him try to solve the crisis. Already a record six percent of the population now disapproves of the actions of the Companions and riots break out all over the world. Air force captain Paul Chandler is shocked to hear that his mission to Mars is suddenly canceled. The billion dollar costing project of the United States, Great Britain and Germany was meant to put men on Mars. Chandler trained years for it, but president Thompson abandons the program after the Taelons offered knowledge of space, a decision much criticized by the public. Boone and Lili immediately have the idea there's more behind it. Chandler angrily refuses a job on a new Taelon space program and pays a visit to Lili. They went to flight school in Valdosa together. A relationship seems to form quickly and Chandler expresses interest in her Taelon shuttle. Lili takes him for a ride and explains everything. The next day the shuttle is suddenly gone, stolen. Dr. Larry Clark is a bio engineer. He is responsible for breeding the skrills and is very passionate about it. Boone however has a rather unpleasant message for him. The companions decided to terminate work on the alpha series, the source for the gamma series that Boone and Sandoval are using. They are to be put in cryogenic storage, because their preservation instincts are too high. When Clark prepares them for shipment, one of them suddenly attaches itself. It shouldn't be possible, but Da'an tells they are something more than a manufactured weapon. Da'an seems concerned and orders Sandoval and Boone to find Clark. In a planetarium Da'an is holding a presentation about the Taelon home world. Suddenly gas is released and Da'an is kidnapped by major Raymond McIntyre and taken to a storage facility. McIntyre is a Navy Seal superior and wants to know of Da'an where his men are being held. They were involved in a inter-dimensional flight test by the Taelons, preparing humans to endure the bending of time and space. It was supposed to be safe, but something happened and captain Lucas Johnson is the living proof. The Taelon Synod however is not willing to negotiate. Meanwhile Doors isn't happy about the situation. The media have touted him as the suspected kidnapper. Doors fears Da'an will be murdered and that it will backlash against him. In the resistance headquarters research continues on the 'scarecrow' probe that was found in the Amish community. Scientist Sahjit and Augur have developed a method to intercept the messages the device is transmitting. Sahjit's associate Rayna assures the procedure is safe. Doors concludes that they need to understand the text to find out the purpose of the probe and to find out what information the Taelons have gathered with it. Boone ask Da'an to learn him Taelon and he soon becomes proficient in it. Meanwhile Augur finds a set of characters that looks like directional coordinates. His initial calculations seem to indicate that it transmits its information to a star system far away from the Taelons'. When Boone takes a look at the language, he notices the 'feeling' is off. Sandoval's CVI is suddenly breaking down. Dr. Belman has a cure: implanting a anti-cyber virus that will kill of his CVI. After the procedure is done in about 20 hours, a new CVI can be implanted. If the operation fails, Sandoval will die. Da'an is concerned about the long time it takes. It seems he is afraid of something and he orders the new CVI must be implanted right away. It's too late however. Sandoval manages to escape the medical facility and is motivated about only one thing: the safety of his wife DeeDee. When he became an implant, he put her in a mental institute to get rid of her. She is under the influence of chlomexidol that puts her in a catatonic state. Tim O'Malley is a guide in Ireland. He shows tourists the stone circle of Strand Hill and the burial chambers near it. An earthquake reveals a rather strange thing in one the chambers. It's a mosaic with the image of a Taelon. O'Malley doesn't hesitate and carves a piece out of it, with money in his mind. The Taelon is Ma'el and the Synod knows all about him. He came to Earth 2000 years ago as a scout. In his last report before he died, he warned the Taelons not to come to Earth. Their whole mission on Earth depends on the research of Ma'el, that he took with him to the grave. Da'an sends his team to find the burial site of Ma'el and to find Tim O'Malley, whose piece of the mosaic contains important information. Boone is suddenly haunted by hallucinations of captain Lucas Johnson, one of the soldiers who captured Da'an. He asks for his help. Dr. Belman doesn't find any sign of CVI deterioration. Lili asks his wife if she knows something. She mentions Lucas speaks to his son in his dreams. Meanwhile Da'an introduces the scientist Rho'ha to Boone and Belman. He has volunteered to participate in a Taelon de-evolution experiment. He will experience human emotions. They will use human DNA as a catalyst. Sandoval and Boone must help in the testing and evaluation of Rho'ha. Da'an opposes the experiment of the Synod, he fears for Rho'ha. The Taelons are shocked to discover the Commonality, the telepathic link, that connects them all, has been invaded by a human. The Synod sees this a dangerous development and Zo'or is adamant about the invader being killed. He takes Sandoval into confidence and he hires Judson Corr, a serial killer. Prime suspect is the Russian psychic Katya Petrenko. She seems very able, as she shows on a demonstration with Da'an and Zo'or present. While Lili remains skeptic, Boone is getting more and more intrigued by her. She tells Zo'or he must change his approach to humans and that his way of thinking will lead to the destruction of mankind and the Taelon race. Jonathan Doors decides it's finally time to strike back at the Taelons. Augur has developed a virus that will strike the Taelon headquarters. Boone is fiercely opposed to the idea. He fears it will get out of control and that innocent civilians will be put at risk. Doors, Augur and Lili wave his arguments away. Augur believes a counter virus he created will stop the process if anything goes wrong. Lili tells Boone he is getting less effective in his duties for the Resistance because of his relationship with Da'an. The virus starts doing its work immediately, the communication systems become faulty. Lili, who has been ordered to pilot Da'an to San Francisco, is barely able to maneuver her shuttle. While she is forced to crash into a abandoned forest, the virus is spreading more than expected. Augur didn't think of communication between bases. Thomas Blanchard is a criminal who died in his cell. His body is being kept alive to be implanted with a brain of a dying old colonel. Meanwhile the Taelons show a new device that has been developed. It's a type of electromagnetic pulse weapon, that only disables the target and not all electrical equipment. Lili gets a message from her mother. Her father has died, with whom she didn't have a good relationship. Da'an orders she takes time off to grieve. Boone finds out the weapon has been stolen, although he had taken very good security measures. Boone fears it will fall into wrong hands and pose a danger to the Taelons. The Taelon Synod agrees to allow Rho'ha be charged for the alleged murder on major Raymond McIntyre in a human court. He will be defended by Sandoval and Boone. To the astonishment of the press president Thompson announces he will be prosecuted by Joshua Doors, the son of Jonathan Doors. Joshua Doors will go for nothing less than the death penalty. Boone fears Rho'ha won't get a legitimate defense, because he and Sandoval aren't experienced. The problem is the Taelons only trust implants, because no one is to know about the experiment with human DNA. Sandoval wants to plead self-defense. Meanwhile Zo'or argues in the Synod that incarceration might be dangerous because Rho'ha might tell too much. The Taelons have offered humanity their inter-dimensional travel system. It makes virtually instantaneous travel possible between specific portals on Earth. Boone and Sandoval are sent to investigate the disappearance of a deaf boy who got lost in the system. He reappears after a while, suddenly able to hear and speak. It isn't the first incident however and lead scientist Dr. Steven Walkin refuses to cooperate anymore. He is adamant about the portals being closed. He fears injuries are inevitable and seems very agitated In the Taelon Synod Da'an is also very concerned about the recent problem with the portal systems, a project of Zo'or. Zo'or still has the backing of the Synod however. Boone takes the boy to Dr. Park, a Resistance associate. She finds a simple CVI. They try to find out what it is for and how he got it. Ne'eg, after researching the scarecrow probe, is suddenly struck by a very deadly bacteria. He dies within hours. Kee'sha, a Taelon researcher, thinks the bacteria is very deadly for both humans and Taelons. If the bacteria breaks out, it will be devastating for both races. It seems contained for now as Ne'eg was isolated, although he has been in contact with many Taelons recently. Meanwhile a new racist group plans an attack on the Lincoln Hills homeless community center of reverend Billy Mitchell. They want to take back America for the white race and base their beliefs on the fact that all Taelons are white. A holographic image of Rayna suddenly appears in Augur's room. She disappeared in the scarecrow probe and now has a warning for the Liberation. The probe recorded everything and contains valuable information about the Liberation Front. The Taelons are close in cracking the security of the probe and retrieving the information. The probe must be destroyed. The Liberation assembles a team and will try to communicate with the probe to let it self destruct. To complete the team they need a specialist in breaking and entering. Augur knows somebody. It's Mike Sloan and he's only interested if a large sum of money changes hand. Sahjit focuses on another problem: getting Rayna out. Meanwhile the Taelon make a rather strange move. They appoint Joshua Doors as the first secretary of Human-Taelon relations. An excavation team is clearing a wreckage and about to leave when they discover something strange. It's some kind of metal cocoon that hasn't been eroded by the sea. They store it, but when a thief opens it a Taelon-like energy being escapes. It seems to be able to take the form of anybody he comes in contact with, leaving the victim motionless. The Taelons immediately sense the arrival of Ha'gel. Da'an and Zo'or tell Boone Ha'gel is an ancient Taelon prisoner and the cocoon was his holding cell. He is extremely dangerous and must be stopped at all costs, but only skrills can kill him. Meanwhile Siobhan Beckett, the British implant, is in America. Her visit is twofold. First she wants to get closer to agent Sandoval with whom she is in love.
