Jesse fills in for Joey as a classroom aid at Michelle's preschool. When another child pinches Michelle, Jesse urges her to fight back and both children receive equal punishment from the teacher. The Tanners invite Cindy and Rusty over again for a backyard barbecue. Rusty writes a phony love letter which causes confusion as each member of the household reads it in turn, all believing it to be from a different person.

Realizing that this will be the first time he is alone with his daughters for an extended period of time, Danny outdoes himself to prove that he is capable of being a single parent. Joey is upset at his recent dating dry spell. When he can't find a date for New Year's Eve, he volunteers to babysit the girls, which seems to be the final nail in the coffin. Desperate for a pair of expensive shoes, DJ takes a job as an assistant at a portrait studio. Danny's only condition is that she must maintain her grades, especially in the science class in which she is already struggling. When she fails her next assignment in the class, Kimmy doctors her paper to make the F look like an A. Danny feels jealousy at his exclusion and tries to win DJ's affection with a musical performance of his own. The stunt only causes embarrassment for DJ, however.
