11-year old Henry (Eli Baker) met the most amazing person he'll ever meet in his life when he was four-and-a-half minutes old, his dad, Mel Fisher (J.K. Simmons). Mel's an incredible father and successful lawyer...who happens to be blind. Ever since he can remember, Henry has always been his dad's eyes and wingman, so when his parents decide to separate, he's less than thrilled that his job has been outsourced to Mel's new guide dog, Elvis. Meanwhile, his mother, Joyce (Jenna Elfman), begins a quest to find herself, essentially becoming a teenager in her forties. When Katie gets her driver's license, Mel makes excuses to ride in the car with her; Joyce tries to fit in with her classmates.

In trying to make a new friend, Mel learns not to judge a book by its cover. Meanwhile Joyce intervenes when Runyen is no longer allowed to hang out with Henry.

Mel fears Henry is becoming a slacker and tries to show him what success looks like; Katie and Joyce decide they should stand up for themselves.

Joyce accidentally discovers Katie's plan to sleep with her boyfriend after the school dance -- her first time. Joyce and Mel set about to prevent it from happening, albeit in different ways. Meanwhile, Henry is feeling neglected.

Mel sneaks into Joyce's house to take bubble baths; Joyce panics over her success at school.

Mel tries to prove a point; Henry worries that he and Jenny have fallen into the friend zone.

The family goes on a trip to Catalina once again. This time Mel tries not to ruin their trip, but Joyce tells him to man up and they bond more close than ever. Jenny and Henry kiss for the first time and at the end, even though, the dog may have broken the whole hotel room they stayed at, it was still a good bonding moment. Written by Andrew Yuen
