Ted is going through his usual mourning process after his break-up with Robin. Barney encourages Ted to get out of mourning and become his wing man once again, but Ted isn't sure when he'll be ready to date. He decides the time has come when Robin, who went away to Argentina for her mourning phase, comes back to New York with a new boyfriend, an exotic Argentinean masseur named Gael. Ted wants to show Robin that she is not winning the break-up. So while going out with Barney to pick up women, Ted hooks up with Amy, a woman not generally Ted's type as she's a bit wild and lives on the edge. Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily have a double date with Robin and Gael, but Marshall and Lily, as Ted's best friends, vow it's only so they can learn to hate Gael, which ends up being a difficult thing for them to do. Marshall and Lily are doing many of their post-wedding tasks, such as writing thank you notes and preparing their individual death folder, which is a package of information for the other in case of their untimely death. Lily implies that the folder should contain a personal letter, of which Marshall was not aware. He quickly writes a heartfelt letter to the love of his life. Unable to resist the urge, he opens Lily's letter which isn't quite what he was expecting. Robin, who had a good time in Argentina, can't seem to capture that joie de vivre she had while in Argentina, even though Gael is still doing those things he did in Argentina which made her so carefree. A move by Gael may show Robin if she really is cut out to be the Argentina Robin. And impressed by how Gael attracts the women, Barney and Ted decide to take on that attribute they believe is attracting the women: being a foreigner who can only have a short term fling before heading home. While by himself at MacLaren's, Ted runs into Trudy, a wild woman with who he once went out. Trudy's old sorority sister Rachel shows up, the two who seem to be competitive with each other. Ted isn't sure if either is into him, so via cell phone, he asks for Marshall, Lily and Barney's advice, they who are at his apartment. It doesn't matter as Ted figures out what they really want is a threesome. Ted brings Trudy and Rachel up to his apartment, where Marshall, Ted and Barney - hiding out in Ted's bedroom - give him advice on how to proceed. Up front with his motivations, Barney has ulterior motives in the advice he gives in his and Ted's quest for what they have coined the championship belt. Meanwhile, Robin has a new dating rule, where she hides her non-shaven legs underneath knee-high boots for three dates with the same guy, so that she will behave i.e. not sleep with him until the fourth date. Lily thinks that a guy she knows named George is perfect for Robin, but he's a single father (his son, Doug, is in Lily's class), which is usually a deal breaker for kid hating Robin. Robin decides to give George a try and she does fall for him, even strong enough in her feelings and confident enough to tell him that she has a problem with kids. But when Robin inadvertently meets Doug in a morning after situation, Robin ends up having a slightly different reaction to Doug, which brings up a situation Robin has never faced. Meanwhile, Ted and Barney make a bet on who can sleep with the next beautiful woman they see at MacLaren's, that woman whose name is Stacey. Before meeting her, Barney believes Blahblah is probably crazy as are all women prowling the Internet for a hook-up, but that she is probably hot to overcome that craziness. After the gang meets Blahblah, Barney's assertions are strengthened. But in getting to know Blahblah and Blahblah getting to know everyone else, the gang discuss the first time each met the other. Lily and Marshall have told their story so often that they have it down to a fine art. But everyone else's story may have the same basic structure from both parties involved, but it's the subtleties that seem to differ. The story of Ted and Lily's first meeting is especially troublesome, and the true details which may never be totally known unless an impartial third party who may have been more lucid at the event comes forward. Ted visits a tattoo removal clinic to get his butterfly tattoo removed and he's attracted to his doctor, Stella. She warns him that he will have to go through ten one hour sessions and it it will be very painful. Ted understands and he wants to go out with her, but she can't, as long as Ted is her patient and it's a violation of AMA rules. In addition, she tells Ted up front when he suggests that they can go out when the sessions are over, the answer will be no. Ted is convinced that he can change that no into a yes after ten sessions. During these sessions, Ted tries to charm Stella, but it appears it's not working. One ploy he tries is to be very nice to Stella's receptionist, Abbey, but Stella still says no and Abbey is attracted to Ted. When session ten arrives, and the tattoo removal is complete, when Ted asks her once again, we find out why Stella can't go out on a date with him. As the woman Lily describes could be a number of the women that Barney has slept with through lies and deceit, Barney has to figure out who she is. To narrow the list down, Barney is inspired by Ted and Marshall's love of NCAA basketball and decides to have his own version of March Madness, with the top sixty-four prospects pairing off in individual matches - with the gang deciding which girl is the winner in each pairing - until the final girl is determined. Marshall's immediate superior, nicknamed Artillery Arthur, is so named because he often, out of nowhere, will launch into a screaming tirade on an unsuspecting person. He's only one of the reasons that Marshall hates his job. Having never been screamed at like Arthur has just done to him (in this case for not finishing a report by the deadline), Marshall reacts surprisingly. He asks for advice from his friends on how to handle his feelings associated with being screamed at. Barney thinks the only way for the universe to work is for Marshall to complete the chain of screaming: scream at someone else, they who in turn will scream at another person, and so on until someone eventually screams at the original screamer. Marshall instead decides to take Lily's advice and reason with Arthur. Marshall's reasoning doesn't come out quite the way he planned. In reality, Robin wants to prove that she's done better than him since he dumped her ten years earlier. On paper, she knows she's done better, and even in person it is obvious to Robin's friends that she's done better, as he is just an older, balding version of his immature teen-aged self. But Robin comes down with a case of what Marshall calls revertigo: turning back into one's old self in the presence of friends from that era. Robin, not seeing what the others do, falls head over heels for Simon all over again. Beyond wanting to date Simon again, Robin gets another case of ten year old déjà vu. Meanwhile, the gang discuss and don't discuss Ted and Lily's cases of revertigo, Ted's in relation to his friend Punchy and Lily's in relation to her friend Michelle. As he started comforting her following Simon dumping her for the second time in her life, Barney ended up sleeping with Robin. In the aftermath, both Robin and Barney want to pretend that it never happened. It ends up being seemingly easier for one than the other. Barney feels that his actions are making him looking guilty especially in front of Ted, to who he feels he broke his self-written bro code in sleeping with the ex of a friend. As such, Barney hires an unemployed Marshall to be his lawyer. Marshall's legal task is to go through the bro code to find a loophole that made it OK for Barney to sleep with Robin. Meanwhile, Ted's thirtieth birthday is approaching, for which the gang are throwing him a not so surprise rooftop birthday party. The party may be ruined by Barney and Robin's secret, and by Lily's new goat, which she rescued from slaughter. Ted isn't too concerned as he wants to do it with her only when the time is right for both of them. But he learns from Stella that she is indeed a bit apprehensive about doing it since it's been five years since her last sexual encounter.
