Major Crimes investigates a double homicide related to an ongoing string of home invasions in the Hollywood Hills. Meanwhile, as Sanchez attempts to reintegrate himself in the division after his suspension over a questionable use of force, Captain Raydor makes a fateful choice in the life of her adopted son, Rusty.

During his first drive-along as a Reserve Officer, Buzz Watson discovers a dead body in a hotel room bathtub, not only threatening an extremely expensive wedding, but also Flynn and Provenza's plans to take the division to a Fourth of July Dodgers' game.

A triple homicide looks gang related, so the team canvasses the neighborhood for anyone who knows anything. Sykes meets a girl who lets on where to find the stashed murder weapon. She tries to tell Sykes her name, but due to the gang's notoriety for killing witnesses, Sykes wants her to keep out of it. She reports in, not telling anyone about the girl, but Provenza senses she's holding something back. As the gun reveals prints belonging to another gang member, the girl calls Sykes to say the killer is back, looking for the gun. Sykes has her call the top line but from a spot without video cameras. Her call gets the team wondering whether the guy they have is the shooter or not. Sykes finally tells them about the girl and the desire to protect her, but the D.A. says they don't have a case without her. Speculating that the guy they first brought in did an earlier killing and the guy the girl saw killed the others, they try getting the two men to turn on each other so they won't need the... After a shooting leaves two LA police officers dead, the Major Crimes unit works with Deputy Chief Fritz Howard of the LAPD's Special Operations Bureau to piece together a high-stakes case involving a fugitive witness. Rusty works with the team on the case in order to secretly gather more background information to support his own journalistic investigation into the life of the girl who called herself Alice Herrera.

New information prompts the re-opening of an old kidnapping investigation, forcing Captain Raydor and her Major Crimes division into partnership with a potentially corrupt FBI agent. Rusty has a major breakthrough in his investigation on Alice Herrera, but discovers he and T.J. are possibly not the friends he thought they were.

When a YouTube video of a bloodied, half-naked man walking down the middle of a street with a gun goes viral, Major Crimes must decide whether the victim was targeted or a potential suicide. Having found Alice Herrera's brother Gustavo, Rusty asks Sharon for help.

After Major Crimes identifies a murder victim as the son of a State Superior Court Judge known for being tough on criminals, the squad hunts through her current case load, which involves an Aryan motorcycle gang. Much to their surprise, the case also involves the disappearance of a 13-year-old boy related to the judge.

Four wealthy people are left for dead outside a hospital emergency room. Before long, a high-school daughter, a diabetic chauffeur, a parking-lot owner and an enigmatic woman all emerge as suspects. Meanwhile, Rusty pursues a taboo subject for a story.

Jack Raydor returns as a lawyer for the defense, trying to get his client off by producing a last-minute video that provides an alibi. The alibi video leads to new clues but also raises questions about the intent of the lawyer for the defense. Meanwhile, Rusty gets another chance to interview Alice's murderer and is baffled when the suspect refuses to answer questions.

A woman, taking part in a reality TV show featuring couples whose marriages are on the rocks, is killed during a stunt. The particular stunt featured couples driving cars equipped so that both could drive. Something went wrong, the husband jumped out, the wife remained and was killed. Seeing from the video that they were at each other's throat, Major Crimes tries talking to the husband, but his sister/publicist keeps them distanced before spiriting him away. He soon appears on TV with the video of his last conversation with his wife, showing him wishing she was dead. Subsequently arrested, he maintains he didn't kill her. The team looks at other participants who also had a beef with them, but still nothing. Discovering that the car they were driving had been hacked, they look into how and by whom. As Thanksgiving approaches, Flynn suffers a setback on his road to recovery, falling squarely into the care of his brusque, no nonsense doctor.

Sharon and the team investigate the murder of a young man pushed off the top of a parking structure who was somehow able to afford a high-end apartment without any visible means of support. Meanwhile, Lt. Andy Flynn suffers through the ministrations of an overly cheerful physical therapist.

With Flynn on desk duty as he recovers from injuries, Sharon and the team investigate the murder of a fugitive diamond thief whose body was found by his bail bondsmen. Rusty is put in a tight spot when his relationship with Slider is discovered by Mariana's brother, Gus.

A professional baseball pitcher's daughter goes missing, and the Major Crimes team's investigation leads them to the very limits of the justice system. Rusty is put in an extremely awkward position as Slider approaches the last phase of his trial.

Major Crimes, responding to a shooting at a university, finds a professor of filmmaking shot as he watched a video on his computer of a woman Realtor being shot. Looking for a link between the Realtor and the professor, they find nothing till her husband mentions that before becoming a Realtor she was a literary agent. Since the video features the killer asking the woman Don't you remember me? (shooting her when she doesn't), they surmise that the killer is one of her former clients, one who feels that she, the professor, and maybe others, had let him down and belong in ruthless revenge film. In part one of a five-episode story arc, a young woman and her son are shot while driving through gang territory by a gun used in connection to a series of unsolved homicides. While Captain Raydor and Major Crimes attempt to solve the mystery, Amy Sykes begins an alliance with a former LAPD detective who has a novel theory and a corrupt past.

Sharon and Major Crimes rush to capitalize on a shocking discovery made in a church, Steph and Sanchez's connection grows as they bond over lost loved ones, Rusty learns from Provenza that his biological mother's ex (Gary) is a fugitive on the run, and Tao's old partner pushes him too far.

Captain Raydor turns her attention back to former LAPD Det. Mark Hickman, who has a secret that may be a motive for murder for him or his wife. With three more murders, a possible gang war heats up, and Tao makes an interesting discovery involving Peter Goldman.

As more information pours in about victims from the past and how they tie to the murders of the present, Lieutenants Cooper and Sykes get caught in an unexpected gun fight. Sharon finally finds the pressure point she needs for leverage against Reverend Price, his attorney, and Mark Hickman as she forces her way forward to the truth.

In the gripping season finale, the threads of seven murders are tied together as the video wire on Reverend Price elicits admissions from his younger brother, narrowing the field of suspects to three. Mark Hickman finally confronts the truth about his past as Sharon Raydor makes good use of a highly unreliable witness. Meanwhile, Provenza and Patrice solve their wedding issues, and Rusty comes full circle in confronting his abuser.
