In Edinburgh Adam Elliott and his wife Grace are murdered for money by a drug-addicted thief. Adam's siblings Claire and Rob return to the rural community where their mother Louise lives, to comfort her and Grace's parents Moira and Bill though Louise is resistant to ex-husband Peter arriving. During a storm the two families help a car crash victim but realize that he is the murderer so they imprison him. Next morning he is found dead with Moira believing that either Rob or her son Jamie killed him. The families agree to close ranks but, since the murderer Lee Walsh, has been sighted in the area detective Andrew Barker arrives from Edinburgh to pursue him. Written by don @ minifie-1

Though unsure which of them killed Walsh the Douglas and Elliot families close ranks, seeing off inquisitive journalists and when Edinburgh detectives Juliet and Andrew, aware that Walsh drove to the area, turn up they play dumb. Juliet, however, has a dark secret of her own, leading to a death. The families bury Walsh in his car, after which Claire comforts a tearful Jamie though she rebuffs his advances. Miles away Peter has an unsettling text from his son whilst in Scotland farm manager Alastair demands money from Bill and Juliet airs her suspicions, leading to Jamie being questioned. Having found the murder weapon in Rob's room and disposed of it Claire confronts him but he denies killing Walsh and in addition they must deal with Peter's suicide. Louise panics as Juliet appears suspicious of both families but Juliet is herself troubled when the drug-dealing in which she is involved to help her sick daughter claims a victim. The double funeral takes place with Bill, unaware of his affair with Moira, sacking Alistair and Moira shocked to learn that Bill has kept his terminal illness from her. Claire confronts Bill over his argument with Adam on the wedding video and is told that her brother was unfaithful, which she disbelieves. She is however intrigued to find that Adam made five phone calls to Bill on his honeymoon and uncovers a terrible secret leading to the identity of the family member who paid Walsh to commit murder and then killed Walsh . Meanwhile Alistair's wife Sal gets revenge for his affair with Moira, devastating the terminally ill Bill and Juliet plays dirty when her partner in crime threatens to expose her, depending on colleague Andrew to determine her future.
