Detectives Nina Suresh, Bobby Day and Alec Wayfield investigate when family doctor Angela Benton is murdered in a children's playground. The apparent killer, schizophrenic Jacob Appley, is later found dead but Alec disbelieves Doctor Crowley's view that it was suicide. Ageing, ailing Bobby befriends Lucy Cannonbury, a witness and friend of the victim, whilst Nina, dumped by boyfriend Dennis, turns to Alec. The detectives get wind of a bogus policeman, Galen, of whom there is no official record, and whom they name the Ghost Detective before a postcard arrives at the police station, saying Look At Angela's Past. This leads to Dusseldorf, home of Angela's ex-partner Ruben Lucana, and detective Linda Felber, who finds a dead man at Ruben's house. Whilst Linda initially believes that Ruben drowned as he was drunk and full of drugs her British counterparts are not so certain, though divided as to the motives of the Ghost Detective, who eludes them following a chase after he has taken typed papers belonging to Angela. The murder weapon is found, incriminating Jacob, but Bobby finds evidence to suggest that he was not the murderer but was framed. Alec and Nina attend his mother Monica's birthday party and again kiss but later Monica warns Nina not to get involved with her son. The Ghost Detective leaves a DVD showing an alleged break-in at Angela's house the night before but her father denies any knowledge. Bobby and Alec finally locate and pursue the Ghost Detective, but he gets the better of them, putting Alec in danger. Written by don @ minifie-1

As Bobby convinces boss Michael Niles that Jacob was not the killer Alec, recovering in hospital, is visited by the Ghost Detective, who wants information but is reluctant to give any more for his own safety. Monica, visiting her son, claims not to have seen him and Alec is disbelieved. The police are convinced Angela was killed because of the papers she had typed and when her surgery is robbed they are sure the killer has them. However following a chase he burns them before Bobby can get to him. In Germany Linda learns that, in the week he died, Ruben rang a woman called Marquita, who is very reticent when visited. Bobby travels to Dusseldorf where he and Linda meet Marquita, who tells them that a very scared Ruben rang her several times asking to see their son in the week before he died. Sheri leads them to Bairam Kocak, a drug dealer who says that Ruben supplied his gang with stolen prescription drugs. Back in England Lucy is visited by Crowley, her former psychiatrist, who wants information about the case but she tells Nina and Alec, who go to see Crowley, Alec voicing his suspicion that Jacob was set up to appear to be the killer though Crowley denies any involvement. Nina and Alec also track down the Ghost Detective, a former doctor, and his invalid wife but they are attacked by a hooded gunman who escapes on a motor-bike after starting a fire. In Germany the police learn that Ruben was afraid of something called Mainline whilst Nina identifies the dead hoodie as an Austrian mercenary and CCTV footage suggests a link to Crowley. He pleads innocent but both Jacob's brother Henry and Monica say that he has been acting in a suspicious manner. Both Alec and Linda discover a link between Ruston Wade and drug trials which may involve Crowley whilst Bobby, angered by Waingrow's insolence and the inability to nail him, freaks out when he is sent a shocking package, resulting in his arrest. Released from prison and sent home Bobby confronts Lucy over the sexy photos he was sent and she confesses that Crowley took them, but with her consent. Linking Crowley to many of Rustin Wade's British drug trials Nina arrests him but has to release him for lack of any evidence when he denies knowledge of Waingrove or his company. Following information from Monica Nina and Alec follow Crowley but get no more of a result than Lucy when she asks him to admit his involvement in Rustin Wade or Angela's death. Then Nina gets a lead when she visits Caitlin Graece, a nurse who took part in the drug trials. Written by don @ minifie-1

Nina learns from Caitlin Graece that a bus driver who took part in the drug trials in Germany killed himself and his passengers and Linda's investigations point to others who took part, supervised by Ruben on behalf of Waingrow's company, also died in bizarre circumstances. In England Crowley is abducted by Henry, who forces him to confess how he came to be involved in framing Jacob, whilst the police make disturbing finds at Crowley's house, leading Bobby to track down Crowley and his captor and putting himself in danger. His subsequent discovery links up with Linda's findings, ultimately exposing the conspiracy and the murderers. Written by don @ minifie-1
