Sam leaps into the body of Lester 'Doc' Fuller, a minor league baseball pitcher with the Galveston Mustangs. Al tells him that Doc makes it to the major leagues and has an outstanding first year but then disappeared after accidentally hitting someone with a pitch and killing him. Al thinks Sam is there to help Doc get back into the major leagues. Sam wonders if he's really there to save Doc or to help Chucky, the real pitching ace on the team. Chucky is an angry young man however, drinking on game days and often getting into fights. Sam leaps into the body of Mississippi Sheriff Archie Necaise who along with his girlfriend, Red Cross nurse Cissy Davis, are trying to get people to evacuate the area due to the impending arrival of a major hurricane. They have to deal with quite a number of people who simply won't leave and some are actually having a party as they plan to ride out the storm. He also has to deal with his old girlfriend, Lisa, who obviously still has feelings for him and is heartbroken over their break up. However, Al tells Sam that he's there to save his girlfriend Cissy's life. Sometime later that day at the height of the storm, she will return to her home for reasons unknown and be struck by a piece of flying debris. Sam's plan is simple: keep her close by and not let her return home. It doesn't quite work out that when they get a call to evacuate someone in distress. Sam manages to partly change the future, but when Al learns that Cissy will now be shot, Sam races to rescue her. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into Clyde just as he is being initiated into the Klu Klux Klan. The head of the local clan chapter is Clyde's father-in-law and he's the head of the 'hunting club', as it's publicly referred to, to please his wife as much as anything. Al tells Sam that he's there to save Nathaniel Simpson, who happens to be the son of Clyde's maid, Ada. Nathaniel is active in getting African-Americans registered for the upcoming election but in 1965, the KKK has no qualms about shutting up what they see as troublemakers - permanently. Sam leaps into the body of Frank Bianca, a hairdresser in Los Angeles just as there's a shooting at the pharmacy next door. He lives with Laura and her son Kyle and he has just let the boy go next door to get some candy. The boy is unharmed but the pharmacist is killed and Kyle may be the only witness. Laura refuses to let Kyle cooperate with the police since her husband once witnessed a crime and was killed before he could give evidence. The detective on the case desperately wants to speak to Kyle but Sam can't convince Laura that they should do the right thing. Time is running out as Al tells him that both Kyle and his mom will be killed in the next 48 hours and he's there to stop it. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into Katie McBain, a teenage girl who has been raped. He decides to press charges against Kevin Wentworth, who was Katie's date that night. It turns out Kevin and his family are well regarded in the town, and it will be hard to prove he did rape her. Sam gets a sympathetic district attorney to help get a trial going. However, Sam cannot testify for Katie since he doesn't know the exact details, so he gets Al to devise a way to have Katie testify while Sam is on the witness stand. Written by Pat McCurry

Sam leaps into Bobo, a chimpanzee-in-training for the manned space flight program in 1961. Bobo is under the care of Dr. Leslie Ashton who is trying to prove that her chimps can do almost anything a human could do. Al tells him that it is essential that he be one of the two chimps selected for spaceflight otherwise Bobo will be found dead with a severe head trauma. Unbeknown to Dr. Ashton, a colleague is experimenting with crash helmet durability using the chimps as crash test dummies. When Bobo isn't selected for the space program it looks like he's done for and if Sam can't leap before the helmet test, it's the end for him as well. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into the body of Jack Stone, a police detective who stops a man from committing suicide. The man's wife has been murdered so the assumption is that the husband is the killer. Sam has a problem however: he keeps having flashbacks to the detective's childhood and the fact that Jack saw his own mother murdered. Sam assumes that part of the detective's memory has stayed with him despite the leap. It all takes a very different turn when Al tells him that he can change the future, Jack will be killed in the next 48 hours. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into the body of Billy Beaumont, who returns to his home town after several years' absence. Billy is a con man who poses as a rainmaker and his home town is in the midst of a severe drought. Sam is reluctant to take advantage of them but in the end decides to use science in his favor and try to make it rain. With Al searching for a scientific way to make that happen, he also learns the real reason Sam is there: to make sure that Billy's brother Ralph and his wife Annie stay together. Sam leaps into the body of Chance Cole, a petty thief serving his time on a chain gang in 1956. Sam is chained to Jazz Boone, a black man doing 15 years for armed robbery who, according to Al, has been unjustly imprisoned after a jewelry store robbery. Sam and Jazz run-off with the local authorities in hot pursuit and Sam has to find a way to keep his partner alive. Recaptured by their jailers, they both soon find themselves in the punishment pit. Things go from bad to worse when Al reports the real jewelry store robber is still at it and is known to them through his frequent visits to the prison farm. Sam leaps into the body of Joe Furlow, a stage actor who is living in New York City with the widowed - and somewhat older - Jane Lindhurst. Joe is an actor and a peace activist who encourages Jane to pursue her singing career over the objections of her adult son Neil who wants her to return to Cleveland. Al tells Sam that in two days time, Jane will in fact return home and live out a lonely existence. Sam realizes that Jane's music is the key to her happiness and her eventual success as a singer will determine her future life. Sam leaps into the body of Tommy York, a cadet at Prescott Naval College in 1964. Tommy is a superb athlete and will be the valedictorian at the upcoming graduation. Al tells Sam that Tommy's former roommate, ex-cadet Philip Ashcroft, will be found dead in two days time. Ashcroft was expelled from Prescott because he was a homosexual but Sam learns there is a small group of cadets, known as the Chain gang, who are praying on gay men in the community. The series of murders has been labeled the Chinatown Strangler case by the media and a psychic,Tamlyn Matsuda, has been helping the police with their investigation. The 6 victims to date were all hookers or strippers but Al tells him that Tamlyn will be the seventh victim. Al ranks her right down there with Ouija boards, but Sam isn't so quick to dismiss her as a quack. Sam is quite attracted to her and when she sees Sam as he really is, he tells her about the Quantum Leap project and - despite Al's warnings that he may not leap again - that she is going to be the next victim. It's 1957 and Sam leaps into 82 year-old Tyler Means, a one-time gunfighter who makes a living doing wild west re-enactments of what is reputedly his greatest achievement, cleaning up the town as a young man. His grandson Stevie thinks the world of Tyler and refuses to believe that his grandpa's exploits are just make believe. The boy has also taken a real interest in guns. Al tells Sam he has to get out of town because if he doesn't, Tyler will be killed. His old partner, Pat Knight, has returned bent on revenge. Knight claims he was the one who cleaned up the town, and Tyler has been living off another man's reputation. He says there's a 95% Sam is there to make sure Lynell has a successful singing career but Sam thinks otherwise, believing he's there to create a better and more understanding relationship between Lynell and her father, Rev. Walters, who will have nothing to do with his daughter having a singing career. When Lynell gets involved with a sleazy club owner, Bobby Lee, Sam has to convince father and daughter to reconcile. Sam leaps into the body of Eddie Brackett, a relatively inexperienced co-pilot aboard a private airplane en route to Bermuda. The plane is owned by a rich man whose son and new bride are going on their honeymoon. When the new bride becomes ill, Al tells him that she has appendicitis and unless Sam can convince the pilot not to return to base and press on to Bermuda, she will die. The pilot had a previous experience in the Bermuda Triangle and is still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder so Sam's task is not a simple one. Sam leaps into the body of Roberto Guttierrez, host of a local TV talk show that specializes in sensationalisitc stories. His friendly wager with a reporter at the station, Jani Eisengerg, that he can do serious reporting as much as anyone takes a dangerous turn when they visit a new plant being built in the area. She thinks he should be doing the story about UFOs and aliens that was called into the station but he soon realizes that there is something sinister going on at the plant. When an informant is killed, they manage to use his pass to get into a secret area and learn why aliens have been seen and sheep have been disappearing. In 1958, Sam leaps into the body of Max Greenman, a New York City cab driver who runs over a pedestrian only to eventually learn that she's actually Max's guardian angel. Max is hoping to win his own cab driver's medallion in the contest his employer is running. But Al tells him that on the next evening, the last day of the contest and $50 short of winning his medallion, Max will be shot and remain comatose for the rest of his life. He knows exactly where - 43rd and Broadway - and when he will be shot so Sam's plan is just to avoid the location at all costs. As part of a contest he has lunch with the winner, Norma Jean Pilcher, who seems to have difficulty differentiating between the real world and the world in the soap opera. In no time, he's forced at gunpoint into Norma Jean's van - with her husband Hank at wheel - heading to Millie's house, someone she describes as her mother. When he hears the reason why she's kidnapped him, he knows he has to get out of there. Al tells him however that the reports they've found indicate he'll be found with a shotgun blast to the head. In 1957, Sam leaps into the body of Dale Conway, an American archaeologist on a dig in Egypt just as he and his partner Ginny Will discover the tomb of Ptah-Hotep. Al tells him however that the discovery has to this day never been reported and that both Conway and Will disappeared without a trace. Like all tombs, there is a curse supposedly placed on anyone who enters and Al would happily get out of there. As several of the expedition's crew are killed in bizarre accidents, Sam and Ginny race to save as much of the tomb as they can before a huge sandstorm engulfs them. As they find what they are looking for however, they are also trapped in one of the tomb's inner chambers. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into Dave Parker (Rafe Battiste), one half of a stand up comedy act while they are on stage at a Poconos resort. Sam knows nothing of the routine and they're bombing badly until a waitress, Frankie Washarskie (Amy Yasbeck), jumps up on stage and ad libs them out their predicament. She desperately wants to be part of the act and is actually in love with the other half of the comedy act, Mack MacKay (Bob Saget). All of their lives get a little more complicated when a mobster named Carlo Degorio (Robert Miranda) offers them a contract to perform at his club in Las Vegas. They're thrilled at the opportunity, but it's also obvious that the gangster's real interest is in Frankie. When Al (Dean Stockwell) tells Sam that Mack will disappear that night he has to be quick on his feet to get the mobster to lay off. Written by garykmcd

Sam (Scott Bakula leaps into Al as a young Ensign accused of raping and murdering his commanding officers wife. Assuming he's there to get Al (Dean Stockwell out of a jam, Sam actually changes the future when he tells his alibi not to speak to his defense lawyer. Whereas the charges were dropped originally, Ziggy says there's now an 81% chance Al will be convicted and sent to the gas chamber. The commanding officer, Dirk Riker (Charles Rocket), seems to have it in for Al, even though he knows he's innocent and knows that Al is one of the few men his wife Marci didn't sleep with. When the probability of Al being executed reaches 100%, Sam finds that Al has been replaced by Edward St. John V (Roddy McDowall) because Al was in fact executed.
