Sam finds himself leaping in and out of Lee Harvey Oswald, accused assassin of President John F. Kennedy. Beginning with Oswald's time in the Marine Corp in Japan in 1957, Sam leaps at random heading closer to the day of the assassination in 1963. Al assumes Sam is there to stop the assassination by uncovering a conspiracy involving Oswald. As Sam continues to leap further along Oswald's life his mind becomes tangled with Oswald's until he loses all control of his actions. Before Sam is lost completely Al discovers there is no conspiracy and must stop Sam/Oswald from killing JFK. In the end Sam and Oswald are separated and Sam's mission is completed. Sam leaps into the body of Nikos Stahatos, a Greek sailor working aboard a luxury yacht. Sam finds himself in the Mediteranean with one of the passengers, Vanessa Foster, just as the ship explodes. The two survivors couldn't be more different: a rough, working class sailor and the upper class débutante, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and constantly looking down at her inferior raft-mate. They eventually make it to land and begin to know and understand one another. The puzzle for Sam is to understand exactly why he is there. Al hasn't quite figured it out yet but everything Sam does seems to lengthen, rather than shorten, the amount of time it takes for them to be rescued. Sam leaps into the body of Marine Corps Captain Ron Miller who is in a Veterans Hospital having lost both of his legs in combat in Vietnam. His wife had met him in Tokyo when he was first evacuated from the war zone and it's not apparent why Sam is there. Al thinks it's to reconcile with his wife since history records that has several children. Sam wonders if he's there to help his hospital roommate, Sgt. Billy Johnson who is now a quadriplegic. He seems to have given up on life refusing to have anything to do with his loving girlfriend. Al knows that Billy will commit suicide by drowning himself in the pool so Sam sets out to ensure that it doesn't happen. Sam also becomes close to Kiki Wilson whose brother is MIA and volunteers at the hospital. Her cheery attitude helps all of those around her - and it's also clear that she has taken a particular interest in Captain Miller. Written by Glassonion0

Sam leaps into the body of Leon Styles, an illiterate and violent escaped convict who is holding Carol Pruitt and her daughter Becky at gunpoint in her home. Sam has no idea why he's there and is puzzled at Al's absence. What he doesn't know is that the real Leon Styles has escaped from the holding facility in the Quantum holding chamber. Al is desperate to find him for without Leon Styles, Sam will not be able to leap. Al knows that history has the prison escapee being killed by the Sheriff whose daughter he killed. Sam thinks he's there to keep Leon from being killed. Having done what he was really sent there to do however, he remains stuck, unable to leap until Al completes his. Written by garykmcd

He lives with his son and his daughter-in-law who think he is delusional and decide the time has come to have him committed to a mental institution. His grandson believes him and tries to protect him but with little success. It turns out the military also has an interest in what Max has seen. Sam is thrilled to once again leap into Jimmy LaMotta, a young man with Downs Syndrome he had previously leaped into some two years before. He really likes the LaMotta family but it's clear that Connie and Frank LaMotta's marriage is on the rocks. Connie seems to be rebelling against her role in society and being a housewife; Frank is being wooed by an attractive young woman at work. Al says Sam is there to save their marriage and also Jimmy, who will be institutionalized if they break up. Sam and Al are shocked however when they realize that Connie's body is occupied by Alia, a leaper like Sam. Her purpose however is anything bit benign. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into Clayton Fuller, a Sheriff in 1955 Louisiana. Fuller is a widower with a 10 year-old daughter, Abigail, who finds a dead man, Deputy Sheriff Bart Aider, in a swamp. This isn't the first time Abigail has been involved with the Aider family as she was the last person to see their daughter Violet before she disappeared and presumably died two years before. The missing girl's mother, Leta Aider, is unstable and blames Abigail for both deaths. Sam now leaps some 11 years into the future and into the body of Will Kinman, whom he had met in 1955. Will was a young man when Sam occupied Sheriff Clayton Fuller's body. In 1965 Will is 27 years old and now engaged to a 21 year-old Abigail Fuller. Will is now a Deputy Sheriff and on his wedding day, a young boy Abigail babysat the previous evening has gone missing. She has no idea what may have happened to the lad but a mob mentality is beginning to take hold with Leta Aider, who still blames Abigail for the death of her daughter and her husband, leading the charge. Sam leaps another 12 years into the future to 1978 and into the body of Larry Stanton, a retired lawyer who was there in 1966 when Abigail Fuller was almost lynched. Abigail has now been charged with murdering Leta Aider, the woman who has always accused her of killing both her daughter and her husband. Aider was found lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit in Abigail's kitchen. Abigail has specifically asked for Stanton to defend her and despite the attorney's frail health, he decides to do so. Al tells Sam that unless he can change history, Abigail will be found guilty and be executed. Sam also meets Abigail's daughter, Sammy Jo, a very intelligent young girl who Al says is likely Sam's daughter. Sam soon realizes that in order to properly defend her, he will also have to deal with the allegations that Abigail also killed her 12 year-old classmate. Sam leaps into William Willie Walters Jr. who along with his brothers Neil and John are in the process of robbing a bank. It seems that the bank has foreclosed on the family farm and the Walters boys are robbing the bank in order to get the money to pay them back. History records that the brothers are killed trying to escape and Al thinks Sam is there to get them to try and surrender. Sam is also in his home town and knows many of the people involved. Sam suspects that the local banker, Gus Vernon, is repossessing farms to sell the land for commercial development. He gets the evidence they need but not before one of the brothers is shot. Sam leaps into Marty Elroy a traveling salesman who is also a bigamist who has two families. One of them lives in Brooklyn while the other live in Pompano Beach. He's managed to keep them apart up to now but faces a major challenge when his Brooklyn family decides to drive to Florida to surprise him. Al tells Sam that he's there to pick between the two families but has little guidance for him on which family he should choose. He suggests that Sam just spend time with each of them and then choose. That isn't Marty's only problem however. He's something of a gambler and is in debt. His bookie gives him 24 hours to come up with $2000 or else. Sam leaps into Margaret Sanders, a mother and homemaker who is arrested with her daughter Suzie at a women's lib rally in 1968. Al tells him he's there to help out Diana St. Cloud who is leading the local women's movement. Margaret's activism is having an effect on her marriage as her husband George struggles to understand what is going on. As far as Diana goes, Al tells him that he next rally will get out of hand and she will be shot unless Sam can get her to cancel the event. His solution leads to other complications however. Sam leaps into Dr. Ruth Westheimer the well-known sex therapist just as she is in the middle of her radio call-in show. Al tells him he's there to help two of Dr. Ruth's staff, Doug and Debbie, to stick together. Sam thinks he's there to help a young woman, Annie Wilkins, who called into the show to say she was being pressured by her boss, Jonathan, to have sex. Sam convinces her to quit her job and Jonathan says Annie is just fantasizing. In the blue room meanwhile, the real Dr. Ruth has advice for Al who, she says, seems to go out of his way to sabotage all of his relationships. Written by garykmcd

Sam leaps into Nigel Corrington, who just happens to sleep in a coffin and who Al is convinced is a vampire. Nigel is a well-known artist who has shocked everyone by marrying a homeless girl, Alexandra Hill, now Lady Corrington. It's the night of the Blood Moon - the night that honors one of the earliest recorded vampires - and the Corringtons are entertaining Victor Drake and his companion Claudia. Sam leaps into the 19th century during the Civil War. He is a Union soldier and wanders around. Eventually he comes to a house and is taken captive by the owner, a woman. When Al arrives he tells Sam that the man's name is Beckett. Sam remembers he had an ancestor who serve in the Union Army during the Civil War and that he married a Southern woman; the woman who captured him. Since Sam knows that's what's going to happen, and everything is going as he remembers it did, that's not why he is there. So while Al tries to find out, Sam tries to earn her trust.
