Hjørdis and Rita have established a small, independent school together, but still can't quite agree on the sets of values and rules for the school. A pupil at the school challenges Rita with fake facts from the Internet, and the school ends up in revolt. On the home front, Uffe and Hjørdis try to strike a balance between their family life and Hjørdis' new and demanding job as headmaster. Uffe meets student assistant Pil. Rita is sought out by Helle, who needs help to make Rasmus understand that their relationship is over.

Rasmus has moved in with Rita and desperately tries to date his way out of his crisis with the unsuspecting Camilla. The school is close to losing a pupil whose parents move to Greenland - but despite Hjørdis' protests, Rita finds an alternative solution to that problem. Jeppe, newly in love, is on his way to travel around the world, but gets an unpleasant surprise that sends him into the arms of his father, Niels. Hjørdis, who already has her hands full with a self-willed Rita, has to confront both an obstinate pupil - and her mother.

The school goes on a trip to Sweden and Rita's and Hjørdis' conflict over management and rules flares. Alone back at the house, all the men unite: Niels has dropped Jeppe off and wants to go back to London but discovers that Jeppe has written him off. Niels decides to fight to become a better father. Uffe flirts with Pil and is overcome with guilt. Rasmus realizes that he may not be as over Rita as he thought he was.

In Rita's English class, the eccentric Gerd appears and insists on participating in the class. Rita spots an opportunity to earn money for a much-needed bathroom for the pupils. Uffe wants to treat the always-stressed Hjørdis to a romantic dinner but is stood up - only for Pil to appear instead. Heartbroken, Jeppe tries to make himself meet someone new and goes on a date with awkward farmer Ole. Rasmus and Rita throw a birthday party for boarding pupil Jørgen and are finally confronted by their feelings for each other.

Gerd and Rita grow concerned that a female student from the adult education program is a victim of domestic violence, and the two women take action together. Uffe pretends to be sick to avoid Pil, but finally confesses to Hjørdis about the kiss. Hjørdis has to stand up for the overachieving Birna in the face of her father, and is reminded of her own, difficult teenage years. Jeppe discovers that Ole has yet to come out to his grandmother, Gudrun. Jeppe confronts Ole about it but ends up participating in his own lie.

Rasmus visits Helle and realizes that he needs to be close to his child, and that he wants to return to Copenhagen. Alex returns from the trip around the world and wants Jeppe back. Hjørdis has to help Maja with her divorced parents' poor communication and realizes that she and Uffe have to start speaking to each other again. Rita enjoys her friendship with Gerd, until Gerd tries to use their friendship to pressure Rita into passing her school assignment. Rita refuses and her choice seems to have tragic consequences. Rita is overcome with guilt and withdraws from all responsibility at school.

Hjørdis struggles to keep the school afloat alone, and a sick Jørgen puts her under even more pressure. Uffe tries to end the relationship with Pil, but only makes it all worse. Hjørdis leaves Uffe and finally confronts the diary and her past. Rita has run off with Rasmus to Copenhagen, where she desperately tries to fit into a new life but is constantly pulled back into her feeling of guilt over Gerd's death. Helle goes into labor. Ole starts dating Camilla and Jeppe issues him with an ultimatum.

Rita asks Hjørdis to go on running the school without her. Hjørdis is left alone with both climate strike and a determined set of parents on their way to bringing down the school. When she learns that a student needs her help, Rita returns to her calling as a teacher. Hjørdis shares her diary and her past with Uffe. Gudrun invites Jeppe for dinner on the farm, where Ole is going to propose to Camilla. Rasmus has become the father of a little girl and finds peace in his new role as a dad - and Rita and Rasmus try to find each other anew.
