On December 16, 2016, Michael Agerter is found dead in his car in the garage of his rental home on Sagebrush Trail in Maricopa, Arizona. Police locate video surveillance cameras and build a case against Kathryn Sinkevitch, his former girlfriend and mother of his child.

The mother to five children, Samantha Wohlford arranged a murder plot to have her allegedly abusive husband Ernie Ibarra, a Titus County tattoo artist, killed. Titus County Sheriff's Office authorities rushed to the residence of Ernie and Samantha after receiving a distressed 911 call, claiming that Samantha had been tied up and gagged by intruders, and that Ernie had been pistol-whipped and abducted. The detectives did not think that the story matched the evidence at the scene, and dug deeper to get to the truth.
