John-Boy gives Grandma a lift so she can visit Maggie, an elderly neighbor who is not feeling well. Maggie asks John-Boy to fix her car, which he does. She is planning a trip to visit the sea, and relive memories of her long-dead husband on their anniversary. In poor health, Maggie is determined, but may need John-Boy to drive her. This would mean he had to give up his date with Marcia for the school dance, since Maggie's anniversary is the same day, and she knows she probably won't live to see another one.
